Hi i bought a 94 discovery 300tdi last night and i fell in love,
it drives brilliant but when i got on the motorway and got it upto 70mph, the car just shuck it butt off and was hard to control but it was also doing it when i was braking,
My friend who is also a member on here has no clue whatsoever what it could be as he has never had it happen before we stopped and checked everywere on the car but could not see a thing so we tried again and stuck to 60-65 and was brilliant and never felt a thing! It felt like it was coming from the back to the front and also when he was breaking he felt it on the pedal,
Has anybody had this happen?

I would start with wheel balance.
Tell the guy doing it the prob and ask him if they are out of ballance enough to cause the prob.
if that dont fix it get back to us :tea:
 
maybe you need to have the wheels balanced?

you should have the prop shaft uj's checked as well

if you have a search for vibrations, wobbles and other similar words you should find something similar
 
if the guy is a nice guy he may give your wheel a shake while its jacked to see if owts loose and tell you if the brake discs are causeing your brake judder
 
No, not really. Anti roll bars are just to make cornering more stable. I'd definitely saucier your wheel balancing. Maybe you've lost a wheel weight.

You need to balance all wheel, including the rear ones. Some tyre places will say the rear don't matter, but it does. It causes exactly the symptoms you're getting
 
Wheel weights are mostly put on the inner rim these days, so you won't see them unless you take the wheel off. Just take it to a tyre place and ask them to balance them for you. Just make sure they do them all. Tell them you plan to swap the fronts and backs at some point.

Also, put your rough location in your profile. Someone local might be able to recommend somewhere to go.

Car is at garage now having all wheels balanced so thats another check done :)
So no doubt any problems with tread or mishaped will be seen then

For what it's worth, I had a similar speed-specific vibration on my Defender when I first drove it. I wobbled the wheels and there was some slack on one of the rear wheel bearings. Fortunately the dealer gave it a going over before I took it home and changed the wheel bearing and propshaft for me, and that cured it. So, the take home message is wheel bearings and propshafts.
