I recently bought my brother's series I Disco. So far so good...On day two of ownership I thought it sensible to joint the AA and as luck would have it broke down the next day! I was towed to a garage and was informed that the problem was terminal - I was sending a smoke screen down the M3 at time of break down. Bugger. The local LR garage stated it would be oil in the exhaust and that it was likely the piston rings needed to be changed - 1053 GBP. A second opinion found that a cylinder head bolt has threaded meaning the head would need skimming and the bolt would need to be re-tapped. Is this likely? Is it worth it or would I be better with a new engine?
I only bough the car for 3700GBP so keen not to spend a fortune if I do not have to.
Thoughts/comments greatly appreciated - even the ones that suggest buying form your brother is not the wisest thing to do...
