I might be being stupid here but I have searched the forum and various retailers, why is it not possible to buy all aluminium doors? I am in need of a rear safari door as mine is rotting inside out, I thought why not get an all aluminium door rather than steel frame with aluminium skin but can not find them. Does anyone make them and if not how come?

Thanks
James

when you say rear door do you mean the back door or one of the back doors for passengers, (side door) you can get new door skins from buckley brothers and the bottom rail just weld the new rail in and fit new skin

haha, its annoying as the rest of the car is sound, just the doors rear and front driver, it would make sense to have all aluminium surely.

EDIT, I mean the back/ tailgate door, e.g. Click Here

I only have 3 doors and 2 are rotten at the bottom :(

hi
the new doors i have bought are even worse than the old ones for water traps and rot creation Zones.
i have moaned to craddocks and paddocks.
their attitude was "shall we collect them from you?" "that's what they are like".
All they have to do is to prevent water getting in and then design for that eventuality, weep holes and rust proof.
And as for the heated screens.....
beggars belief!

I am happy you said that as they were some of the ones I was looking at. peter8315 I would make my own but do not weld or have a welder :(

im gonna be starting a garage later this year and amongst other thing i am gonna be bulding bespoke parts to order
i beleave an all aloy door is something i could build if its required but it wont come perticully cheap as the price of ally is high
if your serious about it pm me and i will see what i can do about it

it would be just as good an idea to get an all steel door (not sure about the rears but the side doors were definately made all steel on later land rovers)

this stops the dissimilar metal corrosion. which is a major contributor to land rover corrosion!

Probably but I guess the demand for aluminium door frames would be limited as i'm not sure they would have the strength to hang a spare wheel on.

I guess with some good paintwork and waxoyl in the right places, new standard steel ones should be good for 30 years upwards.

when i finally get a series and end up redoing me door frames im gonna de-skin it sort the frame then red oxide the death out of it then bed the skin to the frame with this Sealants :: Butyl :: Soudal Butyrub Grey 310ml - Permanent Plastic Polybutene - Multibond Solutions Limited - Adhesives, Sealants, Tapes and Surface Treatments

i have used this to seal aluminium to steel before and it does perform really well the way it seems to me is this stuff will create a permanent waterproof barrier to keep the steel seperate to the aluminium thus stopping the dreaded door cancer

I deskinned my doors, blasted the frames, galved them and then reskinned with DPM between the steel and ali. Should outlast me :)

What's this about heated screens?

Aluminium door frames, due to the mechanical properties of the metal, would work harden and then crack, so that you would have even more problems sooner rather than later.

The steel door frames flex and therefore, last longer!!
