Hi all my 4.6 hse has a problem that when the key is tune to tart it alternator fault appears on the dash I have checked the battery and the charging system and all seems fine the car works fine no power problems just an alternator fault meesage does anybody have ideas thanks

Yeah it means you have an alternator fault. Get it sorted out.
 
Have you taken the alternator of and refitted? I had this issue and it turned out when we took the alternator of to replace it that there was a small wire (earth maybe?) that wasnt actually connected the alterntor either forgotten previously or had dropped of for what ever reason. In this case, as I had a new alternator we just fitted that and connected it all up properly and no more message but I'm not sure if my old alternator was actually faulty or it was the wire causing the issue. (I was trying to sort out a battery drain issue that turned out to be a faulty new battery)
 
No I haven't removed the alternator yet that was my next on my list of finding out why It faults so thanks for that I will check it tonight and let you know what I find
 
What voltage at the battery have you got at 2000rpm?

As an aside, which screen has the battery voltage in the Nanocom for GEMS? Last time I looked they all said 16V!

what other positions do have on your key as well as tart ? whore, sugar daddy, kuma sartra

Guessing that would have been your signal wire - to the warning lamp. Engine off - 12v fed to bulb. Engine on 12v at each side of bulb (well technically 13 - 14v), as charge passes through system. Bulb off. As wammers said if it is constantly means you have a fault. Check your diode pack - if its intermittent (or even flickering) could be loose connection.
 
All sorted had a loose connection at the back tightened it up all good thanks for the advice
And ovalandrover have you got the pound land version of the karma sutra (kuma sartra)

The 16v thing is not correct, I have the same reading on the nanocom for my '98 4.6 Gems - it always shows the 16v no matter what.
There was a post on the Nanocom forum about it, a Bad batch of engine ECUs around 95/96 apparently, maybe mine's been replaced with an older one at some stage :confused:
