As some of you know I'm doing a petrol V8 engine conversion to a 200tdi engine. The first pic is the back of my alternator that came with the 200tdi engine. You can just make out it has the 'O' connections, (A very thick brown wire runs from the starter to the 'O' connector on the back of the alternator). And where does that black spade terminal connect to you can just see on the left of the pic? see pic below...

What I want to know is the best thing to do regarding my alternator.
The next pic is the plug that went into the alternator on my v8. Its quite a new alternater as opposed to the 200tdi one, so it would be nice to use it. I can swop it over, as it looks like it will fit, but if I did that, what do I do with the thick brown wire that has the 'O' connector? how do I incorporate it into that lucus plug? then again If I use the plug will I need to fit that thick black wire that goes from the starter to the alternator on the 200tdi?
See plug pic below...

the other thing I want to know is if I decide to use the 200tdi alternator with the '0' connectors, do I just cut off the 3 wires on the lucus plug, and lump them all together with one 'O' connector, and put it on the same connector as the thick brown wire?? Also what do I do with that thin white wire on the 200tdi alternator, do I still need it? Any help would be much appreciated.

theres 3 connections on the 200 tdi alternator.... the biggest is the heavy wire that goes to the battery lead on the starter motor..... theres a small one that connects to the red light on the dash and the third is the pulsed signal for the rev counter..... according to haynes they are marked B , D, and w respectivly.

im guessing the lucas connector on yer v8 has a small spade for the warning light connection and two big spades , that are connected together in the alternator ..... dont join all three together.

Ok thanks for the peply. Yes your right, thats exactly what my plug has. Just as well you said! If I decided to put the lucus alternator on the 200tdi, which I could do, as it looks like it would fit, what then do I do with that big thick brown wire that runs from starter to alternator? or maybe I just cant fit the lucus alternator for that reason? if I use the 200tdi alternator, can I join the two big spades together, (as it looks like they are connected anyway inside the lucus alternator) if so, do you know what terminal I should put them on? the same one as the big brown one maybe? or do I put them on that other terminal? then the little warning light one on the small one on the 200tdi alternator that runs to the dash light? Sorry to be a pain, I just want to get it right, I've only got to do it once thank god lol.

Also do you firstly know what that little black spade terminal is for, and where it goes to? you can just make out on the far left of the pic on the 200td alternator? Then I have a little black box floating about that looks like it's meant to go on one of the small terminals and held on with a small nut, the other end has a spade that is slotted into the 200tdi alternator. Is that to stop radio interferance or something?

Join the 2 big terminals together from the Lucas block and fit to B+ and the smaller one to IND ( Batt warning light ) .

Yes the small black box is whats called a supressor ( reduce interference ) . O connectors as you call them are called Ring connectors :D .

And if thats not clear try a pic for size :) .
