Did mine last year. Used Aluminium sheet (easy to bend) and polymer sealant(like seam sealer, can be painted). In this video

I'm replacing my alpine windows which are suffering the same rust issues with steel, riveted and sealed with tiger seal. Same with the sunroofs.
