Hi,

Hope everyone is well. Got an issue with my Alpine radio. Had to enter code when disconnected battery but would not accept it and it had a damaged screen. Got it repaired and found out code was wrong so got correct one, tested on bench code went in fine.

When radio installed in the car, the radio will not switch unless key is on ignition 1. When I enter the code it says wait.

When key is out there I checked and there is a constant 12v supply for memory. When ignition is on the constant supply is gone and wake up 12v supply is on. Thought they both had to stay live. All fuses are ok.

When I push on button without key in, there is a momentary screen flash and a noise from CD changer.

I am a bit lost if anyone has advice please?

I am sure radio switches on without needing to put ignition on.

Found rave bit confusing. Its a HSE w-reg.

Thanks all

Not sure if it is as silly as one of the key slide pins had snapped off and when radio is fully installed/pushed in the pins push down and some how complete a circuit?

Until the code is entered and accepted, the radio will not come on unless the ignition is on. If the message says "wait" it meant just that, the code has been entered incorrectly and there is a time delay before it can be re-entered.

Thanks the code is definitely correct as original one was not correct. When radio was plugged into computer code given was entered on the bench

That may be so but perhaps the radio doesn't like what you have tried to do. When it says "Code" on the screen press #1 then up or down arrows for the first digit, then #1 and up or down for the second digit and so on. One error and you will get the message wait. I'm not sure how many times you can go to wait before it locks out. There is no option once the wait message appears but to wait until Code reappears. You may know all that but something is wrong and it may be finger trouble.

That's the bit that's throwing me I've entered it enough times both with original code and new code. It may be locked out now. I've entered it correctly checked and double checked. There is something wrong just wish I knew what it was. Fuses are fine, the live switches as mentioned above. Must be the radio is faulty.

I'm unsure, but it may have gone to lockout, I'm pretty sure there is no power problem.

Maybe this is unwelcome advice, but fit an aftermarket stereo and never have to worry about all that BS ever again - and you can have an upgraded stereo with bluetooth for not v much money. there's enough to go wrong on these babies without being locked out of a 25 yo cassette player too

I agree but just wanted to keep RR as original as possible and all worked fine. Ridiculous what's happened.

Is there a conversion kit for radio plugs to a modern one?

The kit on my prev RR was an abortion.

There is a conversion loom available but I don't know where from. My project car had an aftermarket radio, looked awful and still needed a code after a battery disconnect. I fitted a second hand OEM Alpine, looks the part and no silly nonsense jingles and flashing screen when I turn on the ignition.

I've ordered another head unit see if it is rhe radio or the car.

As suspected head unit is faulty looks like the codes provided do no work. I plugged the 2nd Alpine unit I bought and code went in fine. Wonders what's up with the original head unit?

Yes, I have a regular kenwood stereo and then bought bought an adapter harness, with an extension for using the steering wheel controls too. I think I posted dets on rr.net at the time, but if you're interested I can poke around in my receipts folder

My son found grom unit from the UK that connects to the cd input on the back of the rr stereo. He now has the look of the original setup but with the modern Bluetooth.
