Hmm... I'm starting to go around in circles now - metaphorically!

I've jacked up three wheels, and let it spin them just in case the diff lock was stuck and to allow the trans to unwind - I know a lot of people say to reverse for 10-20 yards etc.
So it seemed to be unlocked, but now I'm not certain - I've dropped the rear wheel and would expect the front two to drive with the CDL unlocked, is that right? The rear still seems to want to drive and push the Landy off the axle stands!
 
If its not an adjustment issue and it is still locked it could be a mechanism issue or a seized centre diff (if you have been previously spinning one wheel a lot with the CDL disengaged)
I haven't been spinning the wheels , as in off road and without traction, just normal road driving in the last 6 weeks..
 
Ok, so I've frigged around with it some more and the centre diff seems to be locked regardless of the lever position. So what's the next step chaps?
The CDL shifter moves freely enough, and the linkage moves the actuating rod on the top of the transfer box, so presumably my problem lies inside the box. Do I need to drop the transfer box, or is there a less drastic approach?
 
Right, I thought that's what you meant.

The test for difflock is to lift a wheel and try and turn it by hand. If it turns you're not in difflock.
 
Yep, I'm a stage on from that unfortunately but n harm at all in making sure not missed the basics. Will have to dismember the linkages now and see if I can unstick the old girl...
 
I likes a plot twist, me...

It seems like the centre diff has blown up! That would explain why I can't unlock it then. I can only assume that it happened when I was running round with only the rear prop connected and must have given it some welly.
I've got another lt230 to bolt on, but it's on my parts disco so I've whipped off the front prop again in the meantime while I get the other transfer box ready..

Might be worth whipping the mechanism cover off to check things are moving like this, if the operating shaft is damaged then the sleeve wont move leaving it stuck in lock
 
Ok as a bit of an update, I swapped the transfer box for a good one last week and as if by magic the problem just 'goes away'...

One odd thing though is that although I've not done anything at all to the gearbox, it's now quite hard to get into 5th and really hard to get it into reverse - what's that about?!

The only thing I noticed was that the r380 gearbox output shaft (that goes into the transfer box - input/output?) is worn, but the gearbox that the new transfer box came from wasn't worn at all. Would that be causing the difficult changes in 5th/reverse?
