Location
Near Heathrow.
Is there anyone near M4 Junction 5 with an All Comms, and fancies helping out over the weekend ?

Mate of mine just dropped off his 2003 L322 for me to investigate. Battery keeps going flat, so will check the usual things first. I'm planning to order All Comms from RSW, but guess it will take a while to arrive.

Thanks,
Pete

Don't think All Comms will assist in searching for the battery drain......it will read and clear faults, recal the EAS, set a few settings on the BCU and LCM but won't ID where a drain is coming from.

Most common drain areas are the heater Final Stage Resistor and the headlamp wipers not parking.....

I work near Heathrow and will be doing some work on the L322 heater valves on Saturday....but not sure if it will be during the day or in the evening yet as the other half hasn't informed me if she has plans or not.

As soon as I know I let you know and if you want to pop over and use the All Comms you are more than welcome.

Thanks Saint that would be useful. Bit more background on the L322 issue.
  • Graham (my friend) said it started last autumn when the original battery died.
  • Replacement fitted and seemed ok, but couple of days later new battery was flat.
  • He charged it up, but then the drivers window went down on its own, and the car would not lock on key or fob.
  • Later that evening Graham found the indicators flashing as if the alarm was going, but no sounder.
  • Local garage diagnosed the locking system and apparently sorted that out.
  • Few days later the indicator issue returned, and battery was flat again.
  • Charge again, and now we have it at my house, on trickle charge.
Last night we checked the status, and all seems quiet. Small red led by gear selector goes out after few mins, and the car seems asleep.
  • Checked the heater fan not running - can't hear them. Graham checked this last week as well.
  • Checked the headlamp wipers. Parked ok, and no motor noise or signs there're still running.
  • Can lock & unlock using key, but Fob only works for locking - not unlocking.
Will check for other signs on Sat morning.

Update. Just been checking battery current after locking the car and waiting.
  • Seems to drop to between 2.5A to 3A after a minute or so.
  • Then down to 0.6A are about 2 mins, but P Led still on in centre console.
  • Will wait longer for it to drop to mA range, but my multimeter switches off !!
Anybody know the correct sleep sequence or timings for L322 ?

Hmmm . . .luckily I don't own it :) . . or any babies for that matter.

Seem like it might have dodgy bonnet switch. Bypassing with a bit of wire, triggers the alarm to flash the indicators. Unlock & lock again to reset. Cannot get switch to work on multimeter. Now wondering if the switch is normally open or closed ?? RAVE doesn't show this

You don't have any damp in the N/S side pocket in the boot with all the sat van and other electrikery?

Can't see any wet. Sat-Nav LED goes off after 5 mins or so as it should.

Just ran some heavy duty cables from car into garage so I can monitor the Volts & Current with the bonnet shut & garage door closed !! Seems to take 15-20 mins for the thing to drop below 0.5A. Now sitting at 40-50mA so will check again in an hour.

So no more battery drain overnight. Still at 40mA this morning. Battery still at 12.6V, but checking battery with my Ring RSC612 shows the battery is knackered, with only 60% CCA measured. Hopefully my mate can find the receipt and get it swapped.

Next job is to get full diagnostics done to see what other faults might be lurking.

Did the steering lock to lock thing to clear the EAS Inactive message, but compressor seems very slow to fill the tank. Might need this sorting as well.

Alternator seems ok. 14V at battery with engine running. Started ok this morning after another 24 hours, so it seems the bonnet switch was the issue causing the drain.

Battery check results in pictures.

Sleep mode still seems working ok. Battery on order. Also bought a 100A ammeter so I can check the alternator charge voltage and current.

Acquired an iCarsoft I930 the other day. Cleared all faults on all modules. Most seem to be due to previous low battery volts.
Only faults to re-appear are "ABS: ECU Comms Failure" and "Instruments: EBV fault from ABS ECU". Hmm, I wonder if these are related ?
