Well it had to happen, my 6 month old second hand Freelander blown its engine today, smoked off the whole A51 causing traffic jam's:( Where can i get a good replacement fitted, had some really bad quoted of £1500 or should I sell the landy on E Bay and count me losses.... I had just become used to it and thought it was a good car , but:mad: Can someone help in my hour of need. its an "S" reg
 
Sorry bout that mate, lots of info on here bout replacing engines. Depending on damage caused the price will differ. What engine was it?

this lot may help, the lump out of a Rover 220/420 diesel is the same block, just needs some bits swopping....

many thanks for all the information Stownrow, the Landy has gone to a man in wales to look at it, some 130 miles away! he said it is the turbo, not the engine, and bet me £100, I have given him the list above in case I think i will win...let you know...i am keeping the car as i think i like it, he will change engine all for a grand! but i will know this one will work.

yesthe engine is the same but a lot of bits are diff like the facing plate for the gear box, turbo, manifolds, oil pipes and so on.

if you can work a spanner its a job that can be done but you will need to remove the pump and flywheel to change the plate.

interested if you do decide to sell :D

As Bandit sez Graham, same block, yer get the lump cheaper, and have loadsa bits to flog on ebay to get some dosh back( my '98 diseasel is running a loada rover bits, including the fuel pump....);)
 
the new turbo cost me £325 + dreaded VAT but its cheaper than a new engine.... and today i have been offered a Rover 418 engine and TURBO for free...... Damn!!!!!! Thank you all for your help in this problem..
