So l decided to get my TD5 remapped, and looking around locally l found "Alive Tuning" has a franchise in Bolton (£360 to do a TD5)

There are a few others around here including a guy in Stockport who will do it for £150, a mobile outfit (Dynachip) who charge £230, and a Superchips franchise who want £360.

They all claim to know TD5's inside out, but is there anybody here who has used "Alive Tuning" ? They say the remap is bespoke, that is done for your vehicle.

Takes more than just a chip to get the full potential from a TD-5

The remaps really are bespoke, obviously you start with a base map, but then tailor made to suit your needs, go for a test run, few little tweaks here and their, try again and tweak until you're happy with it. You tell him what you want and he will do it.
I went to the man himself Gary and was more than happy with the results.

I went with Mike at Dynachip. He's a diesel engineer apparently so knows the engine inside and out (and races them I think). I'm more than happy with mine! He's a really nice guy too.

However, I can't compare it to an alive tuning remap.

I already removed the CAT and EGR.

I only want a moderate upgrade, not looking to rival a Range Rover Sport!

It's OK while trundling around but acceleration uphill and on to the motorway is a bit weak.

Consider a larger inter cooler as that will be need. the more cold air the better, especially if you chip it

My cousin works for the actual Alive Tuning (not a franchise) and the things they do there are truly bespoke. Call Gary at alive tuning in Louth Lincs and have a word with him. He's the head man and will be able to tell you exactly what's possible. I've not met anyone yet that has had an issue with his services.

(Just my opinion)

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately it's not getting done as l found out yesterday the missus's Defender needs a new clutch and DMF (it's in for difficulty with first gear and clutch dragging when hot)

Well l got it done anyway.

It's much better all round, and as has been well documented on many forums, it transforms the Defender.

More torque means you can go up hills in fifth gear, where before l had to change down. Economy has improved by about 10%. (As l am driving it the same as before) It's more relaxed and easier to drive.

There seem to be no downsides. The dual mode throttle still works the same, so it's just as controlled to drive in low range. It's better on the motorway as you can easily regain speed after slowing down without having to change gear (although l don't go faster than 65mph in it)

Plus I called my insurance and it only cost an extra £26 per year with the remap.
