Aldi air compressor...any good?

I'm after a compressor for my workshop, and Aldi have this one on offer at the moment...

Is it any good and worth the money? I want one primarily for inflating tyres and running the odd air tool/blowing stuff out, however with a good quality spray gun (non-Aldi I guess) I would like to be able to use if for paint spraying.

I have loads of their other tools (pillar drill, petrol chainsaw, bench grinder, battery drill etc) and whilst this stuff obviously isn't top notch, it's perfectly good for the occasional home workshop use.

Any thoughts on this compressor then?
 
For a workshop, I would say its far too small and would be running all the time to keep you fed with air for even the smallest of tools apart from the air line.
I started off with a small one and quickly bought the largest one I could fit in the garage, think its a 14 cfm one, which fits the bill.
 
Sorry, just to be clear, my "workshop" is my domestic garage/man cave. It's not a business or commercial, it's just for DIY tinkering and will only get occasional use....
 
It doesn't say what cfm it is but as 24 litres with most tools it'll be running most of the time, in my humble opinion it would be to small for spraying with. I've got one of these that I use with an impact gun.

Depends what tools you've got in mind, if you look on machinemarts website the tools will give you a requires cfm rate they need to run

Yeah so is mine. As I said using anything but the smallest of air tools and the compressor will not keep up the flow of air. Forget trying to spray with it.
 
I once resprayed a Jag with a similar little compressor. Just had to keep waiting for it to catch up but it managed ok and the customer was well pleased. Incidentally, Lidl are selling a good little top feed spray gun at the moment. Have been well pleased with one I got the last time they had them on offer.
 
Agree with above
Adequate for bowing up tyres but won't supply air tools except for short bursts with air line for cleaning.
Would spray with top loader for short periods say painting a grill or a wheel but not full car.
I had one for years for tyres etc and it's still fine in my mates garage..
 
my mate got from from Aldi, dont look like the one in your pic but his seems to do the job quite well although it is on alot and makes alot of noise. I was using it with an impact driver and it worked very well
 
OK cheers guys. As I want to be able to respray my Defender one day, it might make sense to hang on and get a bigger one. Seems a bit daft having two!
 
If you use them as hard as possible ( waiting for compressor to catch up) for any period they die pretty quickly
output drops of markedly
 
As everyone else has said - that is too small for paint spraying. Far too small IMHO. Fine for blowing up tyres and dusting stuff off, and with a 36 month warranty, its not bad value, but there is no proper spec on the web site.

IMHO, look elsewhere, pay a bit more, and get the biggest you can fit in the garage...

I went out and bought one of these last year when my Machine Mart compressor )which had a much bigger receiver) went kaput and I needed one stat. First thought was the price is really great. It had the wrong fittings on it for me so I had to change them to link up my existing kit, PITA.
I like the fact it is compact and takes up less room than the MM one. It is a trade off between how often the compressor is on with it being a little smaller but I got used to that quickly.
I use it for all sorts. A lot for blowing Waxoyl into chassis, a lot for tyre inflation, a lot with the air ratchet wrench, a lot with the impact wrench (really essential tool), a lot with the blow gun, some with the nibbler, some with the die grinder, some media blasting. I have not tried the air chisel yet.
It can struggle with the cut off grinder tool though so I admit it doesn't really cope with just a few things. I have a small spray gun that I just got from Lidl and I will be trying that out next spring hopefully but for the main DIY kit it has been superb for me.
To me I think that if the price means the difference between having a compressor or not having one then this is a no brainer and I won't be upgrading anytime soon. I don't know how I could manage without a compressor. It was suggested that a second tank could be connected if capacity is a worry.

Forgot to mention that mine has two outputs one is regulated and the other isn't so if I need a good blast I use the unregulated one but the tank drains real quick.

Used a similar size unit as this to spray my 90 with a small capacity spray gun, also used effectively with an impact driver.

Did have occasional issues with pressure/flow but does what I need it to do..
 
I just skimmed through the replies to opologizes if it's been mentions but clas ohlson do 2 that look decent. I think a 24l and 50l for £79 and £149. I think they're oil-less so could be used to spraying and the 50l should run air tools
 
Thanks again for the replies guys. To cut a long story short, I was there today and I bought one.

I'm sure it will be OK for 90% of the jobs I want to do, and TBH I wanted something that would not take up too much room, Biggeeeee mentioned he went for a 14.5 cfm compressor, the Aldi one is 9.5 which did'nt seem hugely different so I thought it's worth a punt.

TBH with the modern con of always charging for air lines in garages, most of which have pressure gauges I don't believe, I suspect that this compressor used in conjunction with my digital tyre gauge, will probably pay for itself in a year anyway based on saved £1 coins and tyre wear!
 
I've had one of the Aldi compressors for years. Never connected it to anything other than an airline really but for what I paid for it (£90) it was money well spent. got all the air tools for it including gun, belt sander etc so must try them one day !
