You didn't follow the correct procedure when disconnecting the battery I suspect.

With a flat battery you cannot follow the correct disconnect procedure. Now you have a charged battery try it. Slacken the earth lead bolt, turn on the ignition, turn off and disconnect the earth lead within 17 seconds. Leave a door open and put the ignition keys in your pocket.Have changed flat battery on 1999 p38 and alarm goes off as soon as earth terminal is connected, what can I do to remedy this?
