Alarm/Immobiliser Issues

Hi Guys, the names Chris, new to this Forum and a first time Landy Owner!

Bought a Land Rover Discovery 1998 V8i on Thursday, was running smoothly Thursday drove it home from the Sellers. Got home, went to lock the car using the Key Fob and it wouldn't let me lock it :/ so cautiously left it unlocked overnight as the fob was not responding to unlocking/locking.

Friday morning, i drove it to work (still not unlocking/locking) luckily its a private car park so again nothing would happen, although really annoying Lunch time (1pm) i went to start the car put the key in the ignition and the car locked itself (had to manually unlock from the drivers door as the fob still doesn't work) tried to turn the key further but it stops me from starting up - no igniting sound completely dead, along with that the sound of the alarm comes alive.

To attempt to fix it myself, i read up about replacing the batteries on the Key fob (one button - a replacement to the Original Fob) still didn't work, in addition to that we changed the actual car battery but still nothing.

Has anyone had this problem or know about it that can provide some advice, if not does anyone know a place in Essex that can fix this solution without a big price tag or be a great assistance and come view it in the hope of being able to fix it, you'll be stocked up with plenty of beers (Y)

A single button fob on a 1998 model disco sounds iffy, the standard fitment is a two button fob, which, as u have passive immobilising is required t o remobilise the vehicle.
Therefore your issue is non standard and needs hands on investigating, but can u lock-unlock with the key without any probs

thanks for the reply, i forgot to add that i can't insert the key into the doors to lock or unlock either. Is there a way to replace the entire system for a new one ??? If so, is there any online places i can purchase it from ? Thanks
