alarm going off in wind

Hi all, just acquired my first ever landrover, made up with it,only had it two days but the alarm is going off in the wind which is up but not uncommon in this country, is there anything I can do about it? also is it posible to lock it without it being alarmed. Its as 2009 model

IIRC one press of the keyfob locks the car, two presses arms the alarm system.
Anything dangling inside the car (furry dice?) can set the alarm off if movement of the car sets 'em swinging.
 
I understand from the manual that one press on the fob locks the car and also sets the alarm whilst two presses sets the deadlocks on the car and also sets the alarms. I have checked the windows are all closed and will check for furry dice etc. I'm concerned my car is over sensitive, has just gone off again but the wind is much less than before.
Sadly I am not able to lock the car without setting the alarm, unless someone knows differently. Thanks for the help so far, much appreciated.
 
Make sure all your vents are closed as well.
Check your manual as the Discovery 2 & 3 if you press the remote twice, it turns the interior protection off
Used mainly for leaving pets and probably youngsters inside all snug.
 
Freelander 1 : a single press of the RH fob button locks the car and switches on both the perimetric and volumetric alarms. A second press of the same button deadlocks the car.
Insert the key in the driver's door lock and turn once to turn on the perimetric alarm alone. A second turn deadlocks the car.
It may be that you have the face-level vents open in the dashboard. In a high wind, this will allow the air pressure in the cabin to change and trigger the volumetric alarm.
 
Thanks guys, According to my owners manual which is applicable to my 2009 freelander 2. Pressing the lock button once will achieve partial alarm, ie when your travelling on a ferry and you need to keep a pet in the car. (There example not mine.) Otherwise all alarms on.
Twice will set full alarm. So that being the case and im going to test it out later, Im going to sit in it and wave my arms about like a madman, then its not the volumetric alarm thats going off it therefore must be the perimetric.
Just leaves me with bonnet sensor, tailgate sensor, or any door sensor. Do they still have traditional tilt sensors, I imagine they've all gone electronic but thought Id ask.
I did end yesterday by locking it on the door key (passenger door as the drivers door doesnt have one!) and we had no more probs but the wind had died down quite a bit by then. I understand that locking by this method excludes the volumetric interior but Im not certain. Ive read so much on google etc Im getting confuzzled. Not difficult for me though. Anyway, thanks again for the replies, I will check the vents, make sure they are closed although if the volumetric isnt set then I guess they wont be an issue.

That reminds me. I DID have a problem with the alarm going off after just one press of the fob. It was one of the bonnet sensors. I just cleaned the electrical connections and all was well.
Secondly, make sure ALL the doors are locked when you press the fob. If one of them doesn’t lock a) you will be able to open it :eek:) and the alarm will go off, and b) the alarm will go off eventually (timer?)
 
Update, re Rank Amateurs comments, the wife went out in it this morning and said the bonnet open warning light came on when she went over a bump then went off again, Im thinking if the wind got underneath the bonnet and moved it slightly, if there is a slight fault or play in it the bonnet sensor could have caused the alarm to sound off.
Anyway, will have a look at the sensor, try and clean it, then ill give it a few days and if the alarm goes off again I'll have someone more technical than me have a look at it. Would just be relieved to have it sorted because otherwise its in fine fettle and drives superb, I've had 3 Mitusbishi Shoguns before and for comfort its right up there and more importantly "er indoors" loves it.
 
For what its worth years ago I had an Austin ambassador:oops: and I remember one particular windy day my alarm kept going off at work ,it was because the front of the car was facing in to the wind and it must have been blowing enough to lift the bonnet slightly ??? and kept setting the dam thing off . Any way now my secret is out :p in my defence I didn't have it for long:D I hope you have sorted yours out
 
Shrunk window seals, Rear tailgate lower rusted through to outside all causing my alarm to go off. I simply turn key in driver’s door lock to lock the doors without turning on the probiotics thing on until I can sort it.
 
Further update. Thought id sussed it with the new bonnet catch and sensor, been fine since friday morning last week then last night ( the following thursday ) off it went, car had been sat for 3 days then suddenly alarm went off again.Drat and double Drat. Will try to get it hooked on computer as I understand the last 4 alarms going off are recorded, that should point me in right direction, Becoming a real pain now.
 
It does sound like an intermittent fault.

Have you clarified whether it goes off after just one press of the key fob (doors, windows, bonnet, tailgate) or two presses (internal motion detection, immobiliser)?
Is there any wear or movement wrt the bonnet latches? Any loose headlining or trim?

Again, wrt the doors. Next time the alarm goes off try opening each door, including the tailgate, before you silence it. It took me months to diagnose my intermittently faulty door lock as I was in such a hellfire hurry to silence the alarm before the neighbours complained (no-one ever calls the police).
 
It goes off after one press of the fob.no loose headlining but according to my owners manual the volumetric alarm is not on anyway with only one press of the fob. I havnt tried the doors yet with the alarm on but I will next time it goes off. After trying to relock after the alarm had sounded we instead got the horn sounding I pressed on the bonnet and it then re-locked. which is why I ended up buying a new bonnet catch and sensor. this is located on the drivers side but someone told me it is linked to the passenger side as well, Is this a fact?
I suppose it is possible landrover havnt fitted the new sensor properly, if it was set to low the micro switch on the sensor might be only half operated or similar.
Anyway, I thought I'd posted earlier the following but I cant see it if I did so Ill repeat myself, A friend has a garage and has offered to put it under his diagnostic kit, as he isnt local I wont be going there till next thursday, that shoudl throw up something as I understand it stores the last four alarm operations.
 
Yes, so far we have only locked it with one press of the fob to eliminate the volumetric. After if goes off we lock it with the key ( bit of a faffle though )So far it hasnt gone off using the key.

Same as mine then :rolleyes: There are that many holes in my car the volumetric isnt going to work until they are sealed. I suspect its the same on your car;)
