On the bright side,

I just went to go and check my door handle barrel was turning OK, in case it was needed over the winter and managed to break the little "monkey " metal bar between the handle and the internal switch.LOL.

Cheers

The little yellow chip on the PCB is the immobliser chip. This talks with the immobiliser coil which is around the ignition barrel. This means You basically have 30 secs from getting into the car to start it otherwise the immobiliser will cut back in. The chip overrides the immobiliser.

without it, if you wait , it will re immolbilise, plus, iirc, there is a time that it will reengage once you have switched off the car. All the characteristcs are defined in detail in the workshop manual. As it can get complicated.

Cheers

Thanks matey will keep researchin and learning!

Regarding fob proximity, yes, there can be a very slight delay between putting the key into the ignition barrel lock for the immobiliser system to recognise a proper key and enable everything. likewise there's a need to insert the key into the ignition lock within that 30 seconds.
If you're asking about proximity to the car with the fob, it's only one radio transmitter, so if it'll lock then it should unlock from that position. the range of the fob should be about twenty feet with everything in good order.
Incidentally, even if you get really p*ssed off with the Disco 2 alarm system, one word of warning, you WILL have to get it sorted, you can't just rip it out or override it, it's all built into the circuits of the BCU and so many things are dependant on it working properly.

Is there not some control unit near the front sunroof that sometimes is affected by water ingress - or is that the Range Rover that suffers from it.
The RF unit or something?

RF receiver is just in front of the rear sunroof.

But the locking button on the fobs seems to work OK, from what he has written.

Cheers

Ordered 1 new key yesterday evening, will get the spare refurbed, already got an email notification this morning to say its arrived in my delivery office (in town not my village) so should get it today!

Nice,

Where did you get the key from Ryan?

Cheers
If you need a key for the D2(or any other LR) IMO the best place to buy it is from here http://www.remotekey.co.uk/land-rover/land-rover-discovery-ii-discovery-series-2-year-1999-to-2006/ especially if you dont have a tester to synk it

I have bought it from the remote key place! Neilly threw it up on the last page, as you say sierra it will work well for me. We knocked some money of buying price to account for the bits needin doing so i see it as a good investment. I will put pics up of how i do it as i go in case it helps anyone when it arrives :)

Success! Very impressed with the investment, took me no more than 30 seconds and anyone with a brain cell should do fine... (My level) :D only thing is my C locking wont open drivers door so still have to key it but going to get it cut then will look at the locking mechanism in that door sometime. I ordered it at 4pm yesterday, and had a working key before lunch today, highly recommend! :)

Will post pics shortly!

Ok Ryan
I take it that the fob will now lock all doors and unlock all but the drivers door after pressing the oval button twice.
If that's the case, then sadly it's probably going to mean a new latch assembly Part No FQJ102880. They aren't cheap, around 80 or 90 quid new, but you might find a used one on the bay for about half that.
Some members have said that they've been able to repair the motors, but frankly after seeing the beast, it doesn't appear to be that easy.
If you do have to replace the driver's door latch, it's a fairly straightforward job, just fiddly and a PITA; the whole door has to be stripped down almost.
There is a bit of a write up on changing the latch at: http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Reardoor_lock.html it is for the rear door, but the principles are largely the same.

Does it still blow fuses?

Cheers
Thanks for the advice there brian :)
No fuses blown yet, as previous owner said its quite infrequent so i will have to wait and see how frequent it is.
Just got the new key cut for a tenner outside me nearest massive tescos at Timpsons, the dude was reluctant to do it as he didnt wanna "@#*+ it up" in his own words but he did a good job and works great.
Regards to the door latch, i will look at it in the future, as my next priority job is fixing the passenger front window, which is stuck up but can be jiggled by hand so will have to disassemble that door too giving me an idea of the latch etc. Probably the end up doing a thread on that if there isnt already one matching my problem.
Just been out cleaning it inside replacing a few bits and has come up nicely :)

Still havent put pics up of the key business!
Pack looked like this
IMG_20161014_133402.jpg
The new key uncut, does not have the land rover writing on the button but the key is otherwise the same.
IMG_20161014_133411.jpg
The programmer which you send back in prepaid envelope to get back your deposit of 25 quid, really dinky little OBD plugin!
IMG_20161014_133424.jpg
The full instructions read as follows, everything you need to know step by step!
IMG_20161014_133433.jpg
IMG_20161014_133443.jpg
As it says, you need a good enough key that would start the car, but you just turn it to ignition on, with the new key somewhere near (in my pocket i think), then plug the programmer in the OBD port here..
IMG_20161014_134009.jpg
You wait until the blue led goes out before removing the programmer, it says wait 30seconds or so but mine went out in 2 seconds, but i waited anyway, and then thats it! Buttons opening and closing as they should, all that was left was to get it cut, which they can do for you free of charge if you send it to them, but i got mine done at Timpsons for a tenner.
Hope this helps anyone, highly recommend remote key, this was quick and dead easy :)

Hi all, gotta revive this thread in case anyone can help,
I've just got to work and me keys suddenly stopped working.
Alarm won't stop going off in the middle of the village I work in, am just about to try and disconnect the battery with the alarm in me face as the new key doesn't kill the alarm when turning ignition on like the old broke one did, its just suddenly gone dead for some reason, no red light to show what the fob is doing on this one so I can only assume its receiver issue.
I am gonna try and check the C Locking fuse before I disconnect the battery as I know that isn't gonna fix nout. When I used to open it without C Locking the alarm would go off until I turned on the ignition, which is not happening it stays on and won't start etc. The alarms dam loud in ya face when the bonnets up and until I relock it the alarm carries on happy as Larry, in the very middle of this part of cambridge!! So so far I'm stuck here and cant think of any short term solution, any help very very much appreciated ATM I hate this dam alarm! :(

Hi Ryan,

Just got your message, you still need help?

Cheers
Cheers matey, got that old broken spare brought to me and killed the alarm just as it used to when turning the ignition on. So back to square one with the old key, will get in touch with the remotekey company that the new one came from and see what they can do for me as theres no way the batteries gone in 2 months, will keep updated! Rang today but no answer i had the alarm to deal with first :p
Cheers,
Ryno
