recently and occasionally when I enter my 2005 facelift F1 the alarm light flashes and bleeps at me for about 10 seconds - what is it telling me?

I'm pretty sure you need a new battery in your key fob, but no doubt the experts will be along soon to give you a definative answer.

Well - when the battery in the fob was low if I remember correctly the symptom was one bleep of the horn and a flash of the sidelights - cured by replacing the battery not that long ago - 18 months or so - this is different. It's not the horn bleeping or the lights - it's bleeping in the dash and flashing the red alarm light at the bottom of the left hand clock - the same one as flashes ten times when you lock the car up.

With my '99 the car's horn is sounded when you lock the car while a door is open (or someone breaks in presumably!)

The buzzer that beeps in the car, and the flashing led on the dash, definitely indicates the fob battery is low in my car. It may also mean something else that I'm unaware of.

Anyone else? - I can't think why the symptoms of a low fob battery would be completely different this time.

Quick horn sound when locked is because it thinks a door/bonnet is open.

Dash flashing and bleeping when unlocking with remote fob for ten seconds is low volts on fob battery terminals. This is due to flat fob battery, fob battery holder soldering has given up and come away from the PCB, or the fob battery holder int holding the battery tight enough. Yer can also get the same warning if opening the car with the remote from a long distance. When this happens it's telling you the signal received was low. This the same as telling yer the battery is low as the signal is low.

When I got back to the car after taking the dog for a walk, I thought I'd video the sounds made by the car in response to the remote fob.

I replaced the batteries in my fobs probably 2 years ago now. 1 of the fobs never worked again after that as (as Hippo described) the metal clip holding the battery in came loose. The other 1 worked fine for a while but quite quickly the car started beeping at me again when using it. The battery was brand new and sealed, which isn't a guarantee its got good charge, but I suspect the pick-up is as likely candidate for being faulty. The remote always unlocks the car, either close up or from a distance, but 50% of the time it will beep at me!

The video starts with the car unlocked and door open. I press the 'lock' button on the fob and the car's horn sounds. I then press the 'unlock' button (with the worn out rubber) and the cabin speaker beeping starts. You can see the dash led blinking with the beeping as I get in the car. It would normally beep for a bit longer - but as I get in the car I press the 'unlock' button again and it stops.

Definitely low fob battery. It's a beep beep in short succession repeated about 10 times, or until the ignition is turned on. The alarm LED on the dash will also show a visual signal in unison with the beep beep.

Horns sounding when locking is a door, bonnet or rear window not closed when perimeter protection is activated.

Well - changed the battery - it was 2.9v - replacement read 3.2v so that's probably it - it was intermittent so we shall see - just puzzled why the symptoms were different last time - maybe something else was going on then
Cheers
