Just thought I would ask the question to see if any off you clever folks have repaired a airconditioing pump with a passing seal? Mostly they are sealed units is this the case with the RR one?

Mine has been sat now for ages without moving you see, so reckon the seal will have dried out.

Cheers

The seals will not have dried out. It is not recommended to start stripping them unless you know what you are doing.

Cheers Wammers, that means you don't have to break it to get it apart I take it. Is the mech seal/lip seal (I presume it is) available.

ere Wammbo - can yu get noo clutch packs for em, or is it a noo one?

best price i have seen is £282, and reconn at £230

As with everything else these days parts are available but only if you buy a batch of say ten. In the old days many factors and suppliers stocked bits for rebuilding things. Now they are just fitted with exchange units and the old ones are sent to a specialist refurbisher. You may be able to find one and get a single clutch from him. Clutches for these seldom actually wear out, unless there is something wrong with the electromagnet that pulls them in. Usually just a clean up and adjusting the airgap to the diaphragm sorts them. Try contacting Autokool see what they have to say about a clutch. I think they do their own refurbs.

You would have to open it to change the shaft seal. Depends on which make you are working on. I am sure all the bits are availiable from somewhere, but finding suppliers in this day and age who do not want to sell you a quantity rather than just one, maybe a little difficult. If it's not physically leaking leave it well alone.

Yeah I will leave alone, there don't seem to be signs of it leaking. I am just about to regas the system after being out of action for some time. I don't know when the pump was last run. I have just checked the clutch works buy feeding 12v to it straight. It is currently held off by the pressure switch I am assuming at the moment.

Got some blend motors to repair before I fill it with gas. Waiting on a heater temperature sender too. According to the faults read on the nanocom that should be it.

Cheers for the info, just covering all the bases incase the pump is duff. Turned the aircon pump by hand and it feels ok, nice bit of resistance, no grinding, so fingers crossed it works.

It's a real shame you can't buy as many spares for things anymore and repair them yourself.

please excuse late reply
I might have seals andd gasket sets if you need them just cost of postage used to rebuild a/c pumps before accident stopped working life.

No problem, the only problems I used to see when the a/c had not been used for a while is corrosion on the shaft where the seal sits can be polished off fairly easy to do

I have just had to change the condenser because it was holed. Just need to put some pressure in it again and test. Hopefully the aircon comp will be OK. If it isn't I will be in touch straight away. Thankyou for replying, much appreciated.
