Airbag Dilema

Okay Rangey parked 2 months with flat battery. Battery charged with snazzy charger says full. Refitted no problems but now get Airbag fault.
Check fault codes... everything in the airbag system failed and I mean everything clear faults. everything good.
Next day start up airbag fault which again clears.

Where is this clever box located? Any Ideas?

what do you clear fault with?

Airbag DCU (Diagnostic and Control Unit) is under the Central Console cubby box thingy...

Usual reason for the SRS ECU faulting is low battery volts. You sure your battery is in fact OK and that the voltage is not dropping under starting load? Other faults are due to connectors under the seats or the rotary coupler

Thanks for the Replies..

Clearing and viewing faults with naocom evo.

The battery has been suffering the constant drain from the rf module, but I made a point of removing it and charging it with a intelligent charger. It gave the battery a clean bill of health.

I still suspect the battery or earth as the faults are now changing and every item fails at different times.

Multimeter time I guess.

Smart battery chargers are not that smart, they will, in some circumstances, show a duff battery as fully charged

Right fitted a new RF unit which has stopped the battery going flat.

The airbag snag has settled on drivers airbag open circuit which always resets then next day is back.

Is this a big job? can I fix my one?

Rotary coupler or just possibly the connector in the dash.

This a common fault when the battery is iffy. It often triggers as the car is started and the battery volts dragged lower still by the starter motor. The continuity of the SRS circuitry is checked by measuring voltage across a high value resistor. If the battery volts are low, then the voltage drop across the resistor doesn't reach the minimum and the ECU registers a fault as it interprets an open circuit (no voltage drop).

Whenever this starts to happen on my Rover on a frequent basis, I take it as a sign to get a new battery.

Right this is really getting on my pip now.

New 900cca Varta battery.

ABS pump was running a lot so changed the accumulator that hardly runs now.

New rf unit.

first start of the day srs fault all units. clear the fault stays away until the next day.

Been a few duff Varta's around recently, you checked the battery voltage before you start in the morning? Otherwise bad connections to the SRS ECU or the ECU itself is duff. Low battery voltage is the usual problem.

Right swapped the alternator and although the voltage of the new one is lightly slower than the old one...... No SRS fail.

There is voltage and voltage. One duff diode in the diode pack and you get all sorts of voltage spikes that can fool a voltmeter and play havoc with the ECU's
