Air suspension

I had the same trouble with mine, sometimes fine, other times it would sag. I thought it might be something to do with where it was parked? Perhaps putting pressure on a weak point? When it sagged at work, I wondered if it was the savage speed humps in the drive way. Anyway, it still points to a leaking bag, so it has to be changed. They say you need to change both sides. I had to wait till the next payday to change the other side, it seemed Ok though.

i take it you have changed both? did it fix the problem?

i am having same problem its alright one day then you go out to it and its flat i cant see mine being the air bags has they were changed three years ago and they are not leaking with the old soapy water could anyone tell me if there is one valve that lets both sides down or is there just tbe right and left i had a wiring issue a couple of years back just wondering if its something to do with that also some times it wont pump up because the compressor doesnt start but if i externally wire it the compressor works fine cant find anything in the haynes manual to help regards kev

well an update after mot,
looked at airbags from underneath, both looked ok, couldn't see no bubbles with soapy water, i had my lad to press switch as i was underneath to raise suspension both went up OK, looked OK as well,
mechanic (Leroy) thought it was strange that both go down identically when it does it, to be the air bags, for them to be both knacked and go down the same mmmmmm!! thought it must be something else, but he says he ain't no landrover specialist, he hates em!!!
so still a mystery!!!

tonight suspension went flat at supermarket got it home very slowly couldnt get it to raise had a look when i got it home gave the compressor a good bang it blew up went for a drive no problem so got back removed both connections to the valves going to see whats happened in the morning regards kev

mine hasn't got a problem with the compressor, just sometimes they go down, sometimes they don't!!! f@@king mystery!!

as long as now the bags are on the "self-sealed" status the soapy water is useles of course...it would be usefull when it goes down but then you are not there usually

if it's a small and intermittent leak it will dive even, cos the system stays active up to 1,5 hour after the ignition is off and it tends to keep level.

if you want to make sure it's not some management issue stay near the car with the soapy water untill it will dive again or take out fuse F11 and relay R5 in engine bay all the time when you leave the car and then the system will have no power so if it goes down it's a leak...usually valve or pipe leaks are permannent cos they don't have the qualities of rubber.

just make sure you put the fuse back all the time before you turn ignition cos without that fuse the ECU gets just ignition feed through other fuse(F28, internal fusebox) and it will enter in fault mode

a non-specialist doesnt know these things ... and dont rely on somebody who hate land rovers when he speaks about theyr systems... wait untill it gets worst if you think it's a mystery then just dont cry if beside the bags you will spend on a new compressor aswell

i rest my case with these last comments ...but remember, I LOVE LAND ROVERS;)

can anyone tell me why this happens? as this is the first disco i have had with air sus,
opened car up tonight, all sus up, just replacing some bulbs in dash and climate control unit, suspension started to creep down, why??
i haven't started or moved car since monday, started car, sus straight back up,

Mine did exactly the same thing when the airbags were knackered,it could be left a week at a time without dropping but start climbing around inside it and down it would go,new bags sorted it and its not dropped since.

mine would be fine for months the when you really needed it bags would deflate. The beast would be ok no sitting on it's arse until i was late for work offered someone a lift or in the middle of noe where. She would sulk drop to the ground and stay ther &0 quid and fiheen minutes of my time new bags no probs.

The fact that it released some air it's normal behaviour as long as you opened the door(no matter how long it stayed upowered) : RAVE:
Opening any of the doors will power up the ECU, irrespective of ignition switch position. The door open signal is
sensed by the door switch completing an earth path which is sensed by the ECU. The ECU cannot differentiate
between any of the doors. The door open signal powers the ECU for up to 30 minutes to allow the vehicle to re-level
when a load is removed or passengers leave the vehicle.

if it goes down to the bump not just max. 10 cm there could be 2 reasons:

1. as it moved the leak in the bag "became active"

2. there is a management missbehaviour and the valves doesnt close when the even level is reached (possible but quite unlikely/uncommon ...happened though)

as i said as long as it drops max.10 cm dont bother with it

if you want to know more start reading RAVE seriously;)

when it goes down it goes all the way, thanks for your answer and info sierrafery,
i am going to order a set tonight,
i moved it this morning and when i came back to it at 11.30 it looked like it was going off like a scud missle, noise to the sky!!
i could of the got tow ball under a wheel barrow's noise,
THE DISCO THAT DOES LIMBO!!!

if you hear a loud hissing sound then it might be the exhaust valve ...you better check with the fuse and relay out or battery disconnected then...cos a bad sensor might do that trick too... stop the car on plain ground cut the system's feed then hop in(or in the boot) and make it move as hard as you can.... if it will keep level this way then more tests are needed, if it drops replace the bags

i dunno what could be without seeing or hearing myself;) ... i 'm just trying to tell you how to figure it out... as long as it dives without any electrics it's clear... when the electric hardware is involved it becomes more complicated

The best way to check your air springs is run the engine with the doors shut then switch the engine off open the tail door jack the car up under the tow ball about 2 inches then remove the jack and shut the door. The car will think you have removed a load from the vehicle which will start a leveling process if ti goes down to the bump stops it is the bags.
This test was devised by Land Rover in the early days of Disco2 and I have used it many times.
The leak is usually on the fold and sometimes it seals sometimes it don't though I have seen sharp stones stuck behind the bag do the same thing and have changed bags on new cars and not been able to see anything wrong but the test above found the fault.

any test is good untill it has results:)... i totally agree wit the underlined part of the bolded one... but for the rest i ask what if it's a sensor/wiring issue and the management doesnt get the level information and it keeps the valves open?

i dont contradict any theory but IMO the best way to make 100% certain sure that the bags are leaking is to do what ever you want with the electric "hardware" turned off

i will try this out this weekend, cos i moved it about this morning and early evening and no sag at all allday, in fact just looked out of house window, all ok

finally hoping to test rear suspension this weekend!
car has been parked up all week since sunday morn, untouched!
suspension still up, no sag at all!!
absolutely baffling!!
