The relay for the air suspension under the bonnet is constantly ticking if I remove it I can hear the air suspension doing something I think going down and when I plug it back in I hear the compresser working and then pumping back up until it stops. Obviously this is not normal. I have no warning lights on the dash however I did find one of the connectors for the air suspension sensors unplugged and wrapped in a bag I'm assuming the sensor has failed.
Now if that is the case would the relay constantly clicking be the vehicle trying to adjust itself constantly and obviously not being able to? As when the vehicle is stopped and started the suspension adjusts.

This is on a discovery 2 td5 I have no diagnostics yet so can't tell but there's no warning light on the dash saying air suspension fault.

Hi 109,

Depending on where you are in Devon, there is at least one person who has diagnostics. Iirc, Nr to Plymouth.

The sensor should be connected, having it disconnected is not ideal, in fact when you do change them you normally disconnect the battery to avoid giving the brain a fit and then needing to recalibrate.

Cheers

I just find it strange the relay clicks when there is no ignition on and even when I lock the vehicle and leave it an hour when I come back it's still clicking. Is there a permanent live in the connections to the sensors at the air suspension? If so could moisture in the bag cause the relay to run all the time? I can't get the air suspension to go up and down on the button in the disco.

Ref the ORM button, are you trying to use it when all the doors are closed? engine running

The clicking, is this coming from the relay? under the bonnet.

Cheers

Yeah I've looked up how to use it several times and followed it by the book. All doors closed and bonnet press the button yellow light comes on and three chimes which I think indicates a fault. The clicking is coming from under the bonnet I can feel the relay pulsing if I touch it.
Cheers

I wonder if it is to do with the sensor as you say.

New sensors are cheap enough, maybe worth while biting the bullet and trying a new one, but do disconnect the battery when disconnecting.

You say it is rising when you start it up? which is odd, Both sides?

I would suggest getting it on diagnostics if you can while you replace the sensor.

Cheers

It's not rising when I start it up but when I remove the relay I could hear something going on at the back but couldn't say the suspension going up or down. Then when I put the relay back in I could hear the same noise at the back and the compressor under the passenger seat doing something and then it just stopped as if it had reached a pre determined height.

When the relay was removed I got the yellow air suspension light on under the rev counter and with the relay back in the yellow light had gone out.
