Hi guys
so i bought this L322 2004 3.0d with this issue and can't seem to fix it.

Problem being, the front left keeps releasing the air .....I've replaced the piston ring and seal in the compressor, and replaced the two sensors at the front.

the lights on the switch light up and sometimes goes up and down.

The very odd thing is when I have the car at the right height, if I turn the steering wheel to the right, it will dump all it's air on the n/s front....WTF?!

If i leave the car on a left hand lock or wheels straight it will hold it's air .



The previous keeper said that he recently had 2 new airbags on the front.

as I say, the airbags stay inflated if you leave it on a left hand lock ......not sure how else I can check them...any tips?
 
have you LOOKED at them?

moving the steering can affect suspension geometry enough to open a split in the bag....it is remote....but possible.

also the steering angle sensor is tied via the canbus to the eas ecu.....i wonder if a spurious signal is commanding the ecu to lower the one side......but that isxalmost impossible.

have you also looked at the crosslink valves?
 
I've looked at the bags in situ and felt them....they look new....obviously on the car it's hard to inspect as most of the bag is out of vision.....when the wheels are straight or left hand lock, the airbag holds air.....when past the straight mark the left front airbag completly deflates...totally flat.

put it on it highest setting to extend the bags, put an axle stand under to support get underneath and look at the bags with a flashlight for any damage.

also check the airline connection to the bag, I'm wondering if it isn't fully secure and dumping the air from that.. perhaps when the wheel is being turned its unsettling the connection enough to break the seal

Or just remove it,check for any visable damage and replace it.

Good point Adam , is the connection secure or being unseated when turned?

that's kind of what it sounds like. i'm not sure on the L322 how the air line connects to the bag but on the p38 i can see how the collets could not get a tight seal if the steering is being turned there may be some movement in the bag breaking the seal and thus dumping the pressure

That's two of us guessing then,or three if you include the op.;)
