Well I knew it wouldn't be long before I had another puzzler.
I've got an air sucking noise when the engine is running, 200tdi, and have narrowed it down to a threaded hole in the manifold below the turbo that is sucking in air. If I put my finger over it it stops but it does not seem to affect the running at all. What I cannot work out is what is if there for? Is there is just a bolt missing or is something else missing. The threaded hole must be meant for something. Any ideas would be grateful.

I dont know but if you put up a pic I will have a wild stab at an answer

I often use google image , its amazing that there is pictures of nearly every thing to get a visual reference off

Then again if we all did that no one would post on here

So you best bet is to wait until someone who knows what you mean comes along

Doh! Cant work out picture upload but basically the 'hole' is in the middle of the inlet manifold, directly below the centre of the exhaust manifold. its as if there should be something in there like a sensor or something?
if I can work out the uploading I will post a picture

Been through all my manuals and can't find any reference to a threaded hole in the inlet manifold.

It may be possible that there could have been a vacuum gauge fitted at some stage by a previous owner.

If that's what it is, fit a new short bolt with a Dowty seal, and you should be OK

That's all I can think of at the moment.

It is a strange one and no doubt I will find out what it's for eventually but yes, for the time being I will just seal it up. The fact that it's sucking air in it must affect the performance so I may well see an improvement, hopefully!
If I find out what's ment to be there I'll let you know. Thanks for your input.
