Air con not working

If it worked last summer and it's out of gas now then I'd say there will be a leak somewhere and you'll be in the same position next summer getting it topped up again!! If you get the leak sorted it should just be a one off cost!!

I read somewhere probably on this thread "use it or lose it" I didn't use it. There was some geezer in a very loud Subaru also waiting for a re charge. Surely he didn't have a leak as well?

Spot on. Set the heater diverter to the screen/floor position and the AC pump runs automatically. So then the "use it or loose it" saying doesn't apply!;)

Just rang my local Halfrauds and they confirm that it costs £30 if no clean (???) is required or £40 if a clean is required.

Their website is still saying £49.99.

Only snag is, its first come first served, so no appointments. It means hanging around for ages in this awful heat waiting your turn. Apparently, they are really busy doing recharges.
I will try and get there early tomorrow morning.

I think they mean the extra £10 is to flush and sterilize the system before recharge

Person I spoke to called it a clean and would only be done if the pressure was either too high or too low (I can't remember which).

Just come back from Halfrauds and got seen to immediately. Guy picked up a can, walked to my FL and connected the short hose which was connected to the can and after switching on the air conditioning he said, "look, it is almost full, I won't be able to improve on that". So no recharge done.

So now I am asking is there anything wrong with my air con. It definitley puts out cold air but not nearly as cold as it has been previously.
It certainly cannot cope with the current weather we are having. I have to open windows.

Could there be something wrong or was this guy just an untrained, unknowing oaf?

I have had the car for around 5 years and I have never had the air con recharged in that time.

Sounds like it needs a gas replacement. I use quikfit for AC work. It's the only thing I'd let them touch. But they do vac out the system and recharge with fresh gas for £50.

I took mine to Kwik fit as they do the money back guarantee. It had been dead for over a year due to not being used enough, so I had the recharge and anti bacterial clean, works a treat now. And yes it will lose its coolant if you don't use it.
Mike
how you figure unless there is a leak. Here we don't us AC in a car for about 6-7 months in a year. and our house ac only gets used maybe 2-3 months in a year.
