Freelander 1 Aftermarket TPMS

Given that problems with the tyres seem to be the weak link in destroying the drivetrain components, has anyone had any experience of using an aftermarket tyre pressure monitoring system on a hippo?

Fleebay / Amazon seems to have several starting from around £50 - £60 that screw into the existing valves, good for swapping tyres about, but not so good for likelihood of getting pinched. Or they do internal sensors that get fitted with the tyre.

Sounds like a good idea. Would be great if they were bluetooth or similar to run a monitor on the dash.

was looking into them at one point .. but ..
read about too many failures on every brand searched for ..
concluded to keep dosh in pocket 'n check tyres the regular way ..

i've an IR temp. reader ..
bought it to keep an eye on vcu temps ..
i also use it to read the tyre casing temp. before checking their air pressure
prefer to check p.s.i when all tyres are similar temp ..
preferably when cold .. in the shade if sunny ..
psi changes by aprox. 1 psi for every 10F ( aprox. 6C )
i adjust the psi to suit ambient temp. changes ( weather forcasts )

there are ones that can be monitored via a smart-phone app.

'national tyres' do one that has the sensor fitted with the tyre
i.e. tyre needs to be removed then refitted in order to install the sensor

Yes, reliability is one of the things that seems to pop up in the reviews. But then again, like any forum, it's rare for people to randomly log on and say how reliable their 'thing' has been.
I suppose the advantage of the valve cap versions is that can be replaced more easily, (but also pinched).
Maybe I will just plug ahead with my temperature monitoring project which will also flag up any untoward problems. (questions and progress to follow on another thread)

I have yet to see a Laguna with working TPMS. If a manufacturer cant get them to last more than a year or two God knows how long some cheap Chinese aftermarket pish would last.

I have no doubt that there are good, reliable systems available, but I bet they dont cost 50 quid.

I have looked at length at Steelmate systems but never got around to fitting one. They do simple interfaces to full colour displays using either in replacement valves or simple valve caps. Their parking sensor kits are top notch so I would be happy to put cash into their TPMS when I am ready
