I think my reading skills may be a bit better than your writing skills.
As I've said tell us what the improvements were. Cutting and pasting from the least reliable information source on the web. Doesn't prove ****e. All that tells us is that they changed several key components Whether that was an improvement or not is very debatable and as it says the early 300's suffered HGF and timing belt problems as well as several other faults that you don't find on the 200's.

There was a point raised on the 200tdi being a better motor than the 300tdi.
All I said was I think that is incorrect and posted info from Wikipedia which states the several (208) improvments that were made over the previous engine (200tdi).
Then V8 Disco came back calling me a tit as I must of hurt his 200tdi's feelings.

Hi er no wasn't after that at all, sorry for causing one! I just heard from one of these 'mates that knows about these sort of things' that I should try and look for a 300Tdi. Then again heard from someone with a 1995 Disco and they have a 200 which has done 190k and had no problems.

i dont even own a tdi, my username might have given someone a small clue as to what i drive. I just dont like people telling newbies looking for good advice crap like the 200 engine is 'soft'

a change does not make it an improvement. If it did everyone would be singing the praises of the TD5 & the puma' engined defender. But they don't cause they're prone to far more problems than the 200 & 300's were. so you could say that as far as LR are concerned their modifications usually lead to less reliable engines.

I've had a few 200's and compared to the 300 it is a pretty soft motor.

Don't worry it wasn't aimed at you. as you've probably noticed We have a ****er called scotia, Who posts utter ****e all over the place and get snotty when people have the audacity to point out what a ****er he is.
My advice is 200 or 300, there really isn't anything to choose between either of them only advantage is 300's have R380 Gearbox which is stronger and better made than the 200's lt77 box.
