Hi Everyone,

I've new to the group and landrovers in general so looking for some help and advise,

I've got a 02 freelander TD4 and after reading so much about the Synergy 2 i've bought one from the usual market place however it's got no instructions, I've also bought the EGR blanking kit and plan to fit them tomorrow,

at the moment i'm unsure what MAF is fitted but will find out tomorrow and set the Synergy 2 up accordingly,

is there anything else i should/need to replace before adding these parts?

i cover around 260ish miles a week so looking to improve on fuel economy where possible,

any help/advise much appreciated

thanks

James

Not convinced you'll see any difference to fuel economy but it should be a LOT more lively and fun to drive so fuel economy might actually suffer as you enjoy the new found grunt. I fitted mine, turned it up to 10 and haven't gone near it since. No smoke and no issues so far, mine came with a Pierburg MAF so not sure how it would run with a standard MAF. My car felt pretty flat before I fitted the Synergy but now feels great.

I've been trying different Synergy settings lately. I've settled on 9 (Peirburg MAF fitted) at the moment, as a good compromise.

I have found that on settings where low RPM torque is High, fuel economy suffers. This makes perfect sense, as more fuel is needed to increase torque.

On setting 10, I managed to get my TD4 down to 25 Mpg:eek:.

On setting 9, it's a more liveable 29 Mpg:)

In reality, any improvement in torque, will have a negative effect on fuel consumption.

The last fuel check I did on the L Series was 43mpg - so I'm getting a 50% improvement, but you probably get there 50% quicker.... so its about the same then

Mpg is Mpg. Time getting there has no bearing on the fuel used or the same distance. Just the time out of our lives, actually in the car. ;)

SWMBO drives it 95% of the time and I've never checked the mpg, think I'll have to turn it down a bit. :p

Unless of course I'm driving. ;)

thanks for the help guy's, still haven't had time to change the parts yet but think I'll do them myself sometime next week :)

Hi,

So to follow up The freelander has had the below fitted,

EGR blanking kit
the BMW air filter
new maf sensor
synergy 2 ( setting 6 )

these were fitted in two goes due to be being impatient and giving up on removing the plastic housing....

so first up was the blanking kit and bmw air filter, easy enough to do, however I'd like to warn others so they dont make the same mistake,

I fitted the new blanking however the one I had did not have the little blanking plate coming off the side, so it was just a cylinder ( bolt to engine and attach large house ) so I thought it would suffice just to clamp a small plate over the end of the egr cooler cross pipe :( also worth mentioning I never fitted the blanking plate to the bottom of the cooler pipe...
the short and skinny is the cooler pipe got so hot as it was still getting emissions it melted the wire mesh around it which subsequently took out a fuel pipe,

newbie mistake, trip to local garage after being recovered as it was smoking badly and under pressured, revealed the cooler pipe had also snapped.

anyways now that the FULL blanking kit has been installed and the cooler pipe removed as it's now redundant along with the other parts I'm impressed, just done 140 round trip and it never missed a beat the torque in low ranges is great although it seems to come at a price of slower acceleration from 75 onwards....

apologies if I've named anything wrong,
