Advice??

Hey Guy's,

I'm going to View a defender tomorrow and was wondering if anybody has any advice on what I should be looking out for, in relation to problems and the like -- I'm a complete Landy novice, and have no mechanical expierence waht so ever --- God knows why I want one, but I guess you guys are/were the same!!

Take somebody with you who knows what there looking for.

What year and model is it? if it's pre 1990 then it's a 90 or 110 not a defender.

Main points are rot chassis, rear crossmember, outriggers, Footwells and bulkhead are the main area's check hi/lo & difflock work (drive it around) check for clonks from the drivetrain and smoking from the oil filler cap. Also check for emulsion on the oil filler cap and in the expansion bottle. The list is endless.

if the seller has taken it around the block to warm it up before you get there he might be trying to hide the fact that it's a bugger to start etc etc
