Unfortunately, LandyZone hasn’t got into the 21st century with an L405 section yet; I believe it’s expected to be added around 2035AD :D

Lots of information on fullfatrr.com, but it’s very different to LZ ;)

Have a read around some of the links, then you can come back on here and chat them thru ...

And it'll open the eyes of any Series owner ...;)

Gosh, if only the “don’t leave showrooms with a fault” were the case in reality. There are several cases of near new LR’s being resold after having been taken back with unrepaired faults. One was a Freeloader 2 of mine and I know of 2 very recent L405’s with serious issues with their infotainment systems that were put back on the forecourt. With recent L405’s you need a fairly laid back attitude to infotainment system “eccentricities”! Having said that, who of us is really going to be bothered if iPhone integration has bugs? Personal, I could give a t05s :D

The crankshaft failure issue with TDV6’s is known, but there are no official statistics available on the rate of failure; it’s all hearsay and rumour. Having said that, it’s sufficiently frequent to be excluded from LR’s own extended warranty.

Personally, I’d steer clear of the TDV6 and buy the SDV8, it’s better suited to the car and corners much flatter, has better brakes and avoids the crank failure issue. It’ll also return a genuine average of around 26-28mpg. A proper RR really benefits from having a V8.

Buy on service history, condition and strong & long warranty. Avoid the TDV6, especially with LR’s own extended warranty.

If you buy the SDV8, check for oil leaks from the internal and electronic oil level sensor. A leak is rare, but it will wreck the electronics of your primary turbocharger and although revised parts are available, it will cost over 7 hours in labour and a total bill as high as £4-5,000 at main dealer rates  Check before you buy and make sure it’s covered under the warranty.

Don’t expect to run it on a shoestring!

Have I put you off yet?

Don’t let me do that. Buy the right car, with a V8, with a proper warranty, ignore any silliness from the infotainment system, don’t skimp on maintenance and the car will be joy to own and drive.

Please let us know how you get on....
Fantastic , well informed write up. Nice to see you around :)

P.s How are the dogs?

Hi Dips. Did you quote the wrong person? @Tigger Eeyore & Roo is well versed in the foibles of the Range Rover ;)

I can only comment on the Brembo 6 pot fronts and standard rears on my own SDV8 over the 16 months and 39,000 miles that I've run mine from new.

I'm fairly easy on my brakes, but the rear pads lasted for 32,000 miles and £240 to replace with genuine parts at the main dealer. The discs will be good for one to two more pairs of pads.

The front 6 pot Brembos are unbelievably powerful and are scheduled to be replaced for the first time at between 45,000 and 48,000 miles. The discs should see the same again. At £160 to replace the pads and wires with Apec's at my local LR specialist, or £400.00 for the OEM pads at the dealers, that seems bloody good value for money to me, considering how good the brakes are!

Neither I, nor anyone I've spoken to, has been affected by the reported door lock issue yet. There's always a first time though...

Typical mix of experiences from any cross section of users.

These cars do get stolen professionally. You'll need a tracker, if it doesn't already have one, to make insurance costs reasonable and be sure to keep your keys in a faraday cage / faraday bag when not in use.

Land Rover Assist have gone down hill, especially since it's been subcontracted out. Insufficient loan cars are available. Land Rover can be slow to diagnose a fault, as no diagnosis seems to be done at the dealers - it all seems to be done at LR themselves and communicated by email. This can turn a 2 day visit to the dealer, into a 2 week visit.

Not sure there much that's very helpful there.

The difference in outright performance between the diesel V6 and V8's is missing the point. It's the power delivery of the V8 that makes the difference, with power coming in from virtually idle at 700rpm and it avoids turbolag and downchange hesitation when pulling out of junctions. The V6 is marginally smoother than the V8, but the difference is marginal. The V6 s/c is not a popular choice and quoting a similar bhp output to the diesel is meaningless. The Ingenium straight 6's have been expected for several years now, but we don't seem to be any closer than we were 3 years ago...

I might have just lost the will to live having read that Forum that far! :D

Hello and thanks GR :D

Ben's his usual good self. He's just come back from making friends at the Cafe again AND he managed to scrounge his bit of bacon again

Amber's settled in, but there's no getting away from the fact that she's a demanding one! A good car traveler though and my folks have never had one of those before and they've never had a dog that's settled down instantly in the back of my car with my dog and that's great!

I think there was some suggestion that as a newer model some quirks were little known, but I'm sorry if it was felt I've trodden on toes uninvited ... I will withdraw ...
No toes trodden on. Just wondered as @Tigger Eeyore & Roo has had his 2017 plate for approx a year and a half , and knows the pains already. His pride and joy spent 44 days of it's first year back with dealer. Hence my thought you had tagged him instead of op.
Again, no toes trodden on and no apologies needed :D
