Hi i am thinking of buying a Series 11a thats been totally converted to look like a defender, i.e. defender engine , doors, interior , brakes, front end, one of my concerns is that with so much being done to the vehicle that it may have been put together using a stolen defender & with so many mods would that cause a problem with insurance ? its still reg as a Series with a 2.5 engine, its priced at £3k many thanks Steve

Be extremely wary. The first thing to establish is does the paperwork relate to the chassis. To all intents and purposes the chassis IS the vehicle.

Its possible it's a heavily modified 2a (in which case it's probably lost its historic tax status under the points system for non original parts) but is very easy to buy an old ID and slap it on a stolen vehicle.

Be very wary. Your concerns about stolen parts may be well founded, and you will have to go through the hoops with DVLA to change the docs.
Insurance will be invalid unless you tell your insurer about the mods.

Also, look into the regs about Historic Vehicles, you may find that those levels of modification disqualify it from free tax disc and no MOT.

One of the big warning signs

I AM SELLING THIS 1973 LAND ROVER ON BEHALF OF A FRIEND WITH NO INTERNET ACCESS

Glad you decided to pull out of the deal. Better safe then sorry

Is it this one? in a series thread a couple of weeks ago. (sorry, don't know how to link the thread).

That's a ringer if ever I saw one, galv chassis and id from a series with the 90 built on it, that needs a look from VOSA! We pay a token gesture for road tax in this country, there is nothing to gain in this sort of behaviour!
