Not bothered about a bit of surface rust hoopfish I just don't want it to be a major problem that's going to end up been expensive!

I can't tell if your been serious or not Pikey

Very serious on that age, unless it's been stored in a garage and meticulously looked after, sills (behind the plastic sill covers) rear floor, rear crossmember wheel arches front inner and rear outer, footwells and inner floor will all have some sort of corrosion issues. the only question will be to what extent. Oh and don't forget chassis rot as well.

This didn't look to bad from the outside Disco 200tdi Rot Box Photos by redhand010 | Photobucket

and this was a R reg with 90K on the clock 1 owner from new.
Just a few of the "bits of welding" I had to do.

Mine is similar with 160,000 miles on it and not an auto, I paid £800 as it had a pair of leaky sunroofs, syncro is worn on 4th I think but its fine if you take your time, it needed fresh anti freeze and a thermostat, I love it for what I paid. They are a fantastic vehicle for very little money.
I feel yours is worth £1000-1500 all depending if its been welded or needs welding.

Will definitely have a good look to check for rust, will literally check every square inch to make sure it's not too bad :D

He's serious. It will be rotten buddy, you can be 90% sure of that. If it doesnt mention the bodywork (NOT the chassis) as being either replaced with multiple panels and welded or as rust free due to having a waxoyl every 12 months, its swiss cheese. Expect sills, boot floor and sides, rear x member, front and rear arches, rear mudflaps and maybe footwells to be shot. If its covered in waxoyl it doesnt mean its not rotten to **** either. Then it's a £900 car with an mot, maybe a grand if its a good runner. Just buy one that's been sorted first by someone who can weld or who shelled out a fortune. Otherwise you must assumeyou will be that person next mot!:(

Thanks for the advice everyone, been looking closer at the pics and it definitely looks like it has rust :( all down drivers side and in door frames can clearly be seen, also in wheel arches. Think I may give this one a miss. Huge thanks again as I wouldn't have thought of looking in all areas mention :clap2:

Yeah just a bit :)

Well while we're here what about this Disco. .....?
Better then the last one? Correct price? etc etc.

Any thing can be sorted with time, money and loads of patience!!! try and get it as cheap as possible, the mileage is fine you see some with 200,000+ if regularly serviced. 2 ways to look at it........buy cheap and expect lots of work but in the end, you end up with a sorted Discovery that you know inside and out "feel proud of owning" or pay lots to try and find a sorted one with not so much rust......but truth be told from a dealer you never know!!!

Good luck on your search

Looks ok, the mileage is pretty good......2 ways to look at it, I bought cheap....looked reasonable but had obvious signs of rust in all the normal areas, spent 2 weeks stripping welding (i used to be a sheet metal worker) and repairing.....in the end I was left with a nearly fully sorted Discovery that I knew every little bit of work had been done to my standard, and loved doing it too. anything can be sorted, rust or mechanically. OR buy a slightly more expensive one and hope its ok.....it will need work, they all do!!!

Bare in mind, go buy a Disco 3-4 £10,000+ see how much money you loose every year on maintenance and depreciation.....and a discovery 1 makes for a cheap do-it-all car. even if you spent a fortune on it!! I had a Disco 3.....lovely car!!! cost a fortune in servicing and repairs paid £15,000 sold it for £8000. I will never buy a newer car again!!!! I have a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 3.2V8 bought for £800.00 and love it!! and the Disco 1 300 TDI.

Good luck in your search.....they are great cars!!!

Thanks for all the excellent advice again people it truly helps! Think it would definitely be worth a look for the price.
