Advice please is this a scam??

If anyone could give some advice that would be great
I recently swapped a 97 90 defender for a mf135 tractor. My Landy ran sweet and the engine purred and never missed a beat, I looked after it and spent money to maintain as necessary. It needed some welding but I made this clear. On swap day the chap bought the tractor over with his mate who was obviously the more mechanicly minded of the two. The one I was swapping with kept asking his pal if there was money In it. They spent a good 20 mins looking round my defender and eventually the swap was done.

The tractor on closer inspection needed all new tyres but I wasn't going to gripe about this as it was what it was. But a month Dow the line the bloke rekons he has had to spend £500 on injectors and also reckons the injector pump is knackered which he said will cost £200. he wants me to stump up the £200 or to swap back, as If I want to do either.

Does this sound off to anyone else or can the injectors and pup just break like that? Obviously if this is the case then I feel bad but this was not the case In my ownership.

Legally where do I stand?
Is this a police matter yet?
He said he would be signing the logbook as trade. Does it just sound like his profit margin has dwindles and he's trying to recoup?
 
If you're not a trade dealer, I don't think he has a leg to stand on, did he have a receipt 'sold as seen' etc? ...
 
On the info provided, yep, shound like "he's having second thoughts" ( I am being polite ) - you could always winge back at him about the tyres..

In any event - this is the right answer:-

Tell him to F/OF the deal was done a month ago

If you're not a trade dealer, I don't think he has a leg to stand on, did he have a receipt 'sold as seen' etc? ...

There are different rules for deals between traders/businesses and traders and members of the public.... worth having a nosy at same.

@Magicgrotto 's post is still the right answer tho, possession being 9/10ths of the law and all that. (IIRC)
Worth making sure he can't re-acquire the tractor by having sticky fingers..... stranger things have been known - if your 135 isn't insured, would be worth doing so ASAP - cheap enough on a classic policy....
 
Hopefully you only gave him the green part of the log book and have sent the rest to delay yourself, that way he doesn't have a leg to stand on!

I agree why not contact him and tell him lets call it a draw with the tractor tires.
 
No I'm not a trader just an honest joe like I assume we all are until all this.
Like a right wally I left the complete v5 with the paper work in the Landy. But I have already dealt with that. I've sent a letter to dvla and explained my mistake and also received reply that i am now not the registered keeper.

I did finally loose my temper and inform him of the tyres and that I have had to split the tractor to replace oil seals (rear crank and rope) and he wanted photo proof!

I know I have done noting wrong or eligal or even morally wrong. No chance I'm handing it back.
Yes will have to insure it pronto.
 
When I bought my disco in 2012 It was pi*ing down with rain & I MEAN proper rain in the dark !
In hindsight Yes I should have walked away but on the whole it dint look a bad motor :eek:
Back end a bit wet:eek::eek: ! Half a gallon of water later it was dry:rolleyes: Yes the sun roof's were leaking :eek:
Bit of Flash band later & no more leaks Three weeks of welding ( cancer treatment in-between) & it was sorted
Think wot I'm tryin to say is that I din't spit the Dummy out coss it needed a BIT:eek::eek: Of work & take it back:oops::oops:

I'm not a dealer just sold/swapped it privately
The Landy was running great with 8months mot and I had often used it for my 120mile round trip to work.

Haven't we all bought things and find work to do every time we look underneath or lift the bonet. If something goes wrong weeks down the line it's because it's an old motor.

Any way 135, nice little tractor just need to fix it and stop diesel pi**ing out everywhere!
 
Old vehicles break sometimes! That's what he bought into! If he wanted new with a warranty then that's what he should have done!
He saw it had a poke around and made a choice, it's not like you'd filled the sills with concrete and newspaper the day before just to shift it.
 
I think some people just try it on too - just cause he said there was somthing wrong with it, does not mean there actually was anything up.

And, as above, things like that, for better or worse, are sold as seen.

You can generally, but by no means always, tell when someone is on the make or not.

They are a lovely little thing are a 135. ( and their derivatives too - 230, 240, 550 etc ), got any pics ???:)

Take plenty of pictures of all the work you are doing..... you can guess why!..;)
 
Private sale. You shake hands, hand over the money, take the goods. Done deal.

Like they say^^^^^^^, you arent about to get a a lawyers letter.

135 has better ongoing value than a landrover. Well worth doing the jobs you are doing, you should get years out of it. They are a handy little tractor.

Guessing the buyer has realised this too, but too late.

Filter, many cannot change the element and get the 4 rings in the right places, leaks result.

Pipes, prone to leak because people dont re-olive when the remove. A few olives will often reseal. they are pennies.

Tanks, and the little taps under them, can leak, sometimes the tanks rust out, all the bits are available, AFAIK. Google Agriline!

Tracing fuel leaks is much easier if you clean and degrease thoroughly first.
 
Sound advice above. He was clearly looking to make a quick quid on the landy and is only interested in money. As stated ignore and enjoy.
