I recently purchased my first land rover.

I have a 1998 300Tdi discovery.

I have found some rust at the bottom of the drivers front door pillar at the bottom. Is this pretty easy to get sorted? Anyone else had the same?

(Will try figure out how to upload a photo incase clarity is needed RE location of said rust!)

I think you'd better take the seats and carpet out to realise the full extent of the problems you're about to deal with regarding rust on your new found Discovery...

Good luck. :)

Easy to 1 person may not be easy for others. What are your DIY skills? you got welder, grinder, tools ,paint sprayer etc? take door off remove carpet and door seal, cut piller and might have to do section of floor and rocker panel also. How many days can you take it off the road?

Edited for accuracy. :D

I have taken up the carpet on both the drivers and passenger side. Also taken the trim off. There is no rust on the floor, on the side where the trim was, it appears purely to be as shown in the photo. The car has been well looked after and has been cleaned and under sealed regularly. I won't be selling it lol!

nice one ,you may need to release bottom of wing to weld round pillar , come to that wing comes off quite easy, good luck with it :D

Mine needs welding in exactly the same place, although it isn't quite as rotten as the one in the picture. I don't know whether I would be better off patching it up or buying one of the ready made panels. The ready made piece would be easier, but they are a bit dear for what they are.

Buy a replacement part and fit it properly. Won't look like a butcher job and de valuate your motor. Always try to make it look unmolested

Yes, it will be a fail. Door pillars are now checked for rot in the mot, and it's within 30cm of a body mount
