Advice on purchasing freelander 2

hi all,

I am looking at purchasing a freelander 2 and have up to £11,000 to spend.

On looking at at various examples on auto trader I have seen that the spec from 2006 up to 2012 are pretty much the same in each version. I like the look and spec of the hse.

The big question is, is it worth spending more money on a newer one (10 plate) which has pretty much the same spec and mileage as an older 07 plate I have found but the older one is about £4500 cheaper.

Any advice is greatly received

Buying from a commercial seller provides the buyer with a warranty. Some like the idea of this and some don't. Over the years we've come across good and bad sellers, commercial and private. It's up to the seller to do their own checks but many don't know what to do. If they don't then they need to get help from someone who does, or take the risk. The "sales pitch" needs to have a level of grounding to put it into reality sometimes.

I tend to steer clear of the first model year of any vehicle as they often have teething problems. The 07 FL2 I bought new back in the day had problems develop that were to become quite common, such as weld splatters in the steering column causing issues, problems with the fuel sender, and then the haldex unit. All came along shortly after the LR warrantee period had expired :-( So while all vehicles will have their problems, I tend to think after having had a model out in the wild for a while, some of the more common problems should have been tackled by the manufacturer (in theory!).

Later model years had a slight facelift to the central dash to keep it looking newer. Overall it was a nice comfortable drive, and quite a step up from the FL1. However I still have a soft spot for the FL1, which is why a few years later I ended up getting an older 3-door one, that I'm quite happy to tinker with, and still do a few 800 mile journeys in. The FL2 should be a sound vehicle, and I am sure you will enjoy it!
