I am looking at buying a 2000 P38 Vogue with 68,000 miles. Body and engine seem to be good and it idles nicely. There is only very minor surface rust on a few areas underneath. Interior is also in good condition. Checked the oil and it seems clean. Looked in the coolant tank and that was also clear.

Major concern is missing service history from 38-62k miles. The service book has a stamp from 2006 and then nothing until Feb 2010 and the current owner does not have any invoices for that period. Should this be a deal breaker?

What else should I look for?

Many thanks for the help.

have a sniff test done on the coolant,, check drivers side carpet for damp (o rings gone if damp) make sure evrything works, read rangerover.net for common faults,

May have serviced it himself, which is what most on here do...and a better job they make of it too !!
I have no confidence in Main Stealers abilities and performance and lack of their stamps in the book does not bother me one bit as long as the motor is running well and everything works as it should. Take it on a run, get it up to temperature, check the fluids, put the transfer box in low range and listen for strange noises, operate every electrical gizmo and look for fault messages including the book symbol on the HEVAC display.
If in doubt, get someone who knows or owns a P38 to go with you.

yep you need someone who knows them there are loads of little things that can be wrong also if the mileage is right the swivel ball joints rods on steering etc need to be looked at - drive it over a few potholes and see how it steers also try a road with a few ruts

Always budget about 2K over 12 months to get things into shape when you buy a P38. That may sound a lot if you're only paying 3 for the car but for pete's sake they were 50,000 pound motor cars originally so its pretty fair.
