Apart from being cheaper at the pumps, what is the advantage of LPG over just petrol?

I'm only asking because my V8 has been converted but apparently, the tanks need renewing. The car is not my main driver and I was wondering about converting it back to just petrol!

As you say, it's cheaper to buy, but you will get less mpg, although the price still out ways this. Most benefits are environmental, less pollution etc. Main thing to watch out for is the extra heat generated, so make sure your cooling system is up to it. Even with the cost of a new tank, you should still see savings within the first year if you use it regularly. If the lpg system hasn't been used for a while, get it checked out, but you could do this if you have a new tank professionally fitted. Mike

But without LPG you miss out on this:

LPG is the cleanest fuel on the market, power loss with a decent system is minimal (5%).

Engines run cleaner, oil lasts longer as well.

Tanks are not that expensive really.

what is the cost of having a new system installed on a car? everything new

Varies on the car. Last time I looked when I was considering converting an old suzuki I had, it was £1500+vat. But I didn't do enough miles to warrant it. That was a petrol engine, diesels are more expensive as more complicated to get it right. A decent company will quote you for free though. Mike

I got a quoted £1000 a few months ago.
That was for a 3.9 v8i petrol engine to LPG. Still considering doing it to save fuel money.

I always wonder how many miles you would have to drive to pay back the saving, along with the extra problems with the engine. LPG likes to make a engine run hot. Then how about with fuel injection on petrols?

Many say it makes an engine run hotter due to the lack of cooling effect from the injected liquid petrol mist. However lpg has 85% of the calorific value of 95 petrol.
Yes, it is cleaner, and rover heads are happy running lpg. For the cost of a tank, it's a no brainer

Definitely thinking about converting to LPG already :D only done 35 mile and a quarter of tank has been used haha

Almost certainly voiding your insurance. They are very sniffy about professional installations.

Seen too many dodgy professional ones.

Many people now DIY and do a decent job.

COPII Certification is easy if you can find a friendly supplier to check it for you
