Could anyone help with my seat runners. I have a set for the drivers side but they are full of crud and are really rough when you move them. I thought I'd I removed the roll pins in them then they would come apart and I could clean them up but as is always the case that didn't happen. Am I just being a wuss or is there something I am missing? I don't want to force anything as I have just looked how much the runners cost! and I don't want to break them. If they don't come apart then I will leave them in petrol and see if that will dissolve the greasy crud. Ta
 
I couldn't get mine apart either but as my Land Rover was probably at the bottom of the Atlantic since 1980 it isn't such a great shock.

I just got some good second hand ones I'm afraid to admit.

LOL, Well they are currently living in the garage marinading in petrol so we will see if that cleans them up. So far it has removed almost all the paint.
 
You would do better soaking them in diesel & when you get them moving use spray on copperslip type grease & keep working them until you're happy with them
 
well the soak in petrol seem to be doings it's job, it looks like all the ancient grease and paint has finally succumbed to the mighty cleansing powers of unleaded.

If you lived closer to me, I'd blame you for the lack of petrol at my local Morrisons tonight ... they would only sell petrol to motorcycles ... :eek::D
 
Havent got runners in my 88", dont need them anyway being tall i just shove the seat all the way back.

The runners in my brothers 90 ffr though were gummed up and were freed through liberal coatings with diesel to work into the mechanism. Work like new now
 
The petrol soak got all the gunk out of them, eventually, you should have seen the sludge in the bottom of the container I used. Nice and clean now and they are just fizzing nicely in the derusting solution.
 
That's a really good question but I have broken the golden rule about putting random noxious fluids in unmarked containers. I got it from frosts and I am sure it was a por 15 product. What I have left is the nastiest looking crap ever but it does still work.

Wow that's expensive stuff => Marine clean => Metal Prep
 
I once ended up creating an extremely good unsiezing solution in work out of red diesel and plus gas and other things I cant remember. Was rather potent, used to free off some of my tools (work in a marine environment so tools can go rusty quite quickly), you could see clearly the rust leeching out of the moving joint on pliers etc
