yup, guess it would...jus looked it up...steam is wet an can expand up ta 1600 times its volume wen introduced ta extreme heat...damn...thas a lot!!
 
hmmm...very good. they say that tha wet steam absorbs a huge amount of heat as it becomes super heated, and helps with heat transfer outta yer enjin.

ah might be wrong cos it ages since i played wiff steam injuns but ah think yule find steam is dry. what folk take to be steam, that stuff that you see just above yer kettle spout' is water vapour. if yer look close at yer kettle spout you'll see a small gap between the spout and the water vapour. that gap is filled wiff yer actual steam.

now yer can go one better and get super heated steam which may be the dry stuff am thinking of. but like ah sed its ages since i played with steam stuff and i'd need to dredge me memory banks to be sure
 
yup...tha artickle talks about a very narrow temp range that tha stream/water has ta be at, using heat generated by yer turbo, but only mention petrol engine, no diesel....wunder if diesel is too slow burning and maybe tha steam kills tha fire?? interesting artikle tho

ah young james!! one of my berst students.

mind you trying to get him to understand the concept of the water vapour injun was a bastid, once he got a grasp of it he actually improved it by using high pressure steam rather than low pressure vapour

once ah was following me mate up a hill i had me convertable avec roof down, he was in his fooking old recovery truck. the **** only went and pulled the excess fuel lever;
 
being an inquisitive bloke i thought i'd give the old acetone thing a try out ..

so me plan was .. fill up and reset trip meter so i could see what am getting to the gallleon just now, then once tank is near empty fill up and add the required amount of acetone..

first part went ok filled up and reset trip meter , once i'd figured out how to do it. then i drove about 30 miles and did some bowling, went back to car and started it up ah was driving back home when i noticed the odometer and trip meter no longer partook of the nice digital read out. so part 'B' of me plan is now fooked thanks to electronics.. seem i'll have to rip me dash out again to see if its a dodgy joint or something equally simple.


question is.. ,if its just the readout being silly will the info still be in the computor?
 
It should be. as the comp runs on a seperate system. and IIRC if you replace the dash the old mileage comes up on the dash.
thats kinda what i thought, bloody thing just gave up!! no warning nor nowt.... ave a good mind just to paint some numbers on the screen and not bother wiff it
 
Hay Slob - did you get any further with a Acetone test?

I building up the courage to lob some in this week, keep reading more and more about it.

As long as you stay somewhere within 0.2% acetone to fuel, as Slob said, then you should not have any issues with rubber rot, and start so improvements in lower fuel consumption, and maybe notice a tad more umpth too.
 
nah not yet, i was doing it till me dash gave up. as it has a digital readout for the trip meter i couldn't really check what MPG i was getting before the acetone . so i couldn't do a comparison. i'll fill up tomorrow and start again.

Per litre of Doooozal lob in 1.53ml of Asstone.

Or, 58ml per 40 litres of Dooozal.


I've lobbed some in !! too early to tell if I'm getting more MPG , but for sure the engine is smoother, and throttle response is crisper. Wouldn't say I'm getting any more power - but definitely a more drivable Land Rover.

Whether that's due to the cleaning effects of the Acetone - I don't know.
 
I'm using 50 ml acetone into a Disco TD5 tankful - about 90 litres.

Damn me but it seems to make a difference alright.

Perkier .... better pulling ..... economy looks noticeably better so far.

I am going to continue with it at 50 ml acetone every time I tank up.

I tried this a couple of years ago in my TD4 freelander. I got the Acetone from the local chemist. I used to do alot of miles and thought I'd try it so I did a couple of tanks at 10ml, 20ml, 30ml and so on. At best I got a 2% improvement and at worst I got a 6% loss.
Bearing in mind what this stuff does to hoses and o' rings, I wouldn't bother again. I needed a couple of Injectors at £160 a pop after trying it which may have just been coincidence.

I asked my scientist friend about this, after I had lobbed 50 ml acetone into my Disco tank.

He said he had checked up on it, and that in principle it's a sound idea - BUT ...... the "polar" strength (or something like that) of acetone is very much the same as that of typical fuel oil, and so the surface tension of the fuel would hardly be affected one way or the other by a tiny blob of acetone added. My own test went down the pan because my Disco wore a hole through a fuel pipe and pumped lots of lovely fuel onto the roads.

I won't be trying acetone again. Science says it doesn't help.
