Ive got a loud rattle on my TD5 Disco aircon/ace.You can only hear it on tickover, when you raise the revs it goes quiet.
I removed the auxiliary belt and engine sounds fine.I then had a good pull and push on all the pulleys. The pully on the ACE pump had no movement up/down but it did have quite a bit in and out,so i deside that the bearings must be on theyre way out.
ive just bought another from Ebay and that seems to have the same play.
Is this normal or have i got two duff pumps.
Please help as ive got alot of miles to do over chrimbo and need to get this sorted.:confused::confused:

it's a cam pump with 6 pistons lubricated internally by the ACE fluid...as long as it doesnt leak dont bother with it... if u turn the pulley u'll feel the points where the cam reaches the pistons...that in/out movement might be a ware of the rear part of the shaft where it meets the housing....IMO no probs with it

The aircon compressor used to make more noise especially if the a/c clutch is worn

I can put up with the noise if its not going to fail.
I will have another look at the aircon pump because i thought it might have had a tiny bit of play:doh: I just hope that they are not known to give up suddenly:(
