Accessory Sockets

Hi Folks

I'm getting peed off with all my exessory sockets and extensions, so was thinking about fitting say three of these in the space in the pannel next to the original cigarette lighter (replacing this as well).

Any thoughts/tips? Thought I would just splice the existing fag lighter supply to each unit. Can't by much different to the three socket adapter I have pugged in now?

they don't give amp ratings. But do say they're no good for fag lighter. so probably end up melting if ya use em for a heavy load

I used one of these in my rear sunroof winder panel thing - powering my orange beacon.

Been great, good quality.

Is that because of power drawn or heat produced? I suspect heat.

the Contacts will be thin as fook and will provide too much resistance to a haeavy load. which will cause Heat. and melt em. or start a fire.

you can get "proper" marine grade accessory sockets that are rated to 20amp continuous use.

Good for 96W 12Volt X 8Amp = 96Watt So probably fine for a beacon. Not so good for a ceramic heater or a fridge etc.

That's good news, especially as I don't have a fridge on the roof.

what he sez....

I had problems with the landie ciggy socket fer me ceramic heater at first,
so after thinking through my options said sod it, and wired it into my ignition supply near the steering columb with an inline fuse.
ok, i know its not thro` a socket, but just to point out supply needs fer certain items.
jus maybe thet waterproof socket ov op would have done, but I found that theres no seperate live feed available thets as good as the live from ignition curcuit.
oh, my screen heater does chuck out some really good screen heat with injin running

Bugger. I had thought about that, but convieniently ignored myself

Got any other ideas?

OK, fer personal use?
feck it, fit a 13amp socket & 3pin plug?
or mebe find a 110 volt contractors plug and socket?

or rough it wiv a connecter block wired in, just two screws to attach yer whatnots too.
