Any ideas on how much an Air-conditioning service on a Shogun Pinin should
be? Local main dealer is quoting £54 + vat.

AC is still working, but doesn't seem as frigid as I remember it!

Seems reasonable to me.

I had my Land Rover Defender done a few months ago. Doubt the vehicle
type matters - air-con is air-con is...

Although mine was done as a freeby in the end it should have been around
the £100 mark.
That was the 'interim' service. Next year it needs a full service, and
thats £120 or so at least.

My system was an aftermarket installation by a mob called CoolAir, and
they came to the house and did the service.

You can probably double the price if a Land Rover dealer did it.

Worth looking in Yellow Pages to see if there are any air-con
specialists in your area?

Sounds reasonable, if it includes a regas.

It does, but not massively so. Some older cars will have the older gas
(R12) in the system - that's now been banned, but the newer gas (R134a)
isn't a straight drop-in. AIUI, there's a different gas (R314?) that is,
but it's not the normal - that would require a change of seals. The new
stuff is also less efficient.

AFAIK R12 is only banned as far as it's manufacture is concerned.
I think you'll find it is still permissable to use *reclaimed* R12.
If you can find any!
With an old R12 system it's probably better to have the system converted to
use R134a.
From what I've read, all the alternatives solutions are not as satisfactory.
They all seem to need more frequent regassing.
Mike.
