Dear Wise Collective
You haven't failed me yet in my Rangie queries so please lets keep the 100% record!

ABS and TC lights on permanently, and message/ beep on start up, didn't do this before it went in for a service at a local crappy garage (they popped a bag off the front corner, another LZ help thank you!), went back but tbh they are a bunch of muppets and don't want them tinkering anymore. Is this something I can sort (I'm not mechanical, well 3/10 or so) and is this connected to now all three brake lights not working...if not whats this problem. Oh they replaced brake pads all round at service.

Cheers

Hello chaps. Thank you, I've replaced the brake switch and the brake lights all work (I'm so not a mechanic but I feel epic having done this!!) however the ABS and TC messages are still on, what do I need to do to get rid of those? Do I need some diagnostics plugged in, if so does anyone live local to me to help out (TW20 0JN) or do I need to take it into a garage. Cheers

Yes good dedicated diag or you will be guessing for the rest of the year. Did you fit the brake switch correctly? If it's not sequencing correctly that would bring up abs fault. But not the TC lamp.

Hi Wammers.

Think I fitted it correctly, seemed to be only one way to fit it. Brake lights now work which is good, I think I might just need to get the faults (ABS TC) cleared.

If you don't fit and adjust the switch in the correct way you WILL get an ABS fault message.

oh...wonder what I've not done right then. I depressed the brake pedal, the switch seemed to fit in with a half turn, then I reconnected the electrics and eased the brake pedal off so it gently pushed the plunger in. Did I not do something?

No that sounds correct. With the brake off there must be NO play from plunger to pedal. Do you just have ABS and TC lamps on with no dash message?

dash message ABS failure on start up, then traction failure once I move after 5 secs or so then they go away, ABS and TC lights stay on. (car drives fine) the car had been to some muppets who changed pads and knocked a bag off one corner (fixed) the error messages occurred after that, but not immediately. least I've got brake lights now

You need to make sure all your ABS sensors are pushed in as far as they will go. Until they touch the reluctor rings then see what you have. But as i keep saying get some dedicated diag on it. That should cut a lot of guessing out. Guessing is frustrating and expensive.

...slight thread bump...I've been out of the country and not been around to sort this but need to now Thank you Brian for trying to get the messages away but no joy, we tried the height sensors and all are pushed in as far as they can go. I think that the messages just need clearing. Does anyone have diagnostics for a Petrol 4.6 2001, around the Heathrow area (TW20 0JN). There's a case of slightly out of date flip Grolsch in it for successful message deletion!!:beer2:
