My 2002 disco's ABS doesn't seem to be working at all. Used to only do it occasionally. Obviously I need to get it on a computer to test it etc but is there any other basic checks I can do before handing over the cash. Three amigos come an go sometimes twice a day sometimes disappear for few weeks. Any ideas much appreciated. If anyone has a nanocom or hawkeye etc an fancies some beer money get in touch.
 
Anything except reading the fault codes will be pure guess-work. I'm not surprised the 3 amigos come on, but I am surprised they clear themselves again.
Doesn't sound like the usual dodgy hub scenario, but as said- you can't be sure till you read the codes.
 
Cheers disco DJ. Thought there might be a certain plug or fuse that was common problem. Would buy own code reader but looks like a mine field with all the options. They aren't exactly a cheap mistake to make
 
if the ABS stays on alone and go off when you exceed 10mph it's sensor/hub failuire that's for sure, if the amigos go out all on ignition cycle it's a SVS fault, ...but there could be other reasons too so as said tester needed anyway cos even if it's a hub you must know which one

And yes, he does!

I had fault "intermittent sensor ring" for both rear hubs. Changed both hubs, got fault/lights reset (they were permanently on) and no more issues. But your situation doesn't sound quite like that.

Quick update. Just had the landy code read only a basic one but got loads of fault codes but nothing braking related. The guy who did it says the front brakes can grab easily on the disco 2's. Says the calipers may need some attention. Anyone have any experience of this?
 
you can forget those general OBDII codes, most of them are false... the brakes pure mechanical side has nothing to do with the fault codes... the calipers may need attention anyway but that's a completely different story, it has nothing to do with this thread's subject IMO
