Abs fault ( the lemon strikes again)

Them Dremel things with a drum sander are good to clean out the iron bushes in the hub. Cheap copy ones from Aldi and the like are fine too.
I pushed the sensor in as far as it would go then eased it out a smidgen.
I intend to pull them all out and clean/regrease every engine oil change cos the ballache when they seize in I don't want again.:cool:
You should not pull the sensor back, it should be pushed all the way in, it then positions itself.
 
I am wondering now if all these generic OEM sensors are all made in China and then sold here at vastly different prices. Both sets I have got have got the pimple on the end, whereas the originals were flat. I spoke to someone in Technical at Kerr Nelson today and even theirs are made elsewhere and bought in.
 
Flush to the ring? Not sure what you mean by that, but the sensor should be pushed in until it touches the reluctor ring. If the bush into which the sensor fits is badly rusted, it maybe too tight which could be destructive, I had to hone the bushes on mine to get a good fit.

I'm sure you are right, all made in China.

Pushed fully home and the reluctor ring will take the pimple off and the sensor is set to the right clearance.
 
oem spec sensors turned up - identical to the ones i fitted. Checked resistance myself on existing ones, n/s 1100 ohms, o/s 950 ohms. Is that enough of an imbalance to trigger the abs and traction lights ? I thought anywhere between 950 and 1100 was within specifications. Gonna remove them and check the ends to see if they have worn through due to being in contact with the reluctor rings (which I doubt) and also check for debris on the reluctor rings. Can't remember now if i greased the reluctor ring teeth with moly grease or not which may have attracted dirt. Guy at garage says not to push sensors right up to toothed ring but to slip a sheet of paper between sensor and ring to give the correct air gap. New sensors measure 1002 and 999 ohms.

Finally sorted. Fitted the sensors I had from the Landrover specialist and the abs and traction lights have extinguished. Sensors were from Landrover branded OE equipment but not genuine Wabco. Externally identical to those I bought from eBay and although the DC resistance values were similar, the AC impedance generated once running must have been different which threw up the warning lights.

Update:- 12 days after 2nd set of front sensors fitted - same fault again - abs & traction control lights back on :(

Beginning to think the LR specialist has conned me into replacing 2 perfectly good front ABS sensors as the intermittent stiff pedal problem that occurred originally has occurred again just before the lights came on. Time to clear the codes and check the pump and pressure switch - maybe the relay as well but the complete fusebox was new 5 years ago and accumulator was new in October 2019.
