Hi, Just replaced all 4 air springs due to one leaking & EAS fault showing.
Now raises & lowers fine & sits level overnight.
But after driving 1/2 a mile ABS Fault & EAS Fault show on dash, all the lights flash on level indicator. Have also noticed that the speedo is not working!
Its a P38, 4.0SE 1995. I have had all faults cleared (2) but it did not help.

Can anyone please help?

All senors seem to be in place, I beleive the car has to get up to 5-10mph for the abs system to check, but as speedo has also gone down for some reason? will also cause fault to show?
 
Check all cables and connections in the areas that you have been working especially earth connections. You will need to look at RAVE for the source of the speedo input signal, I know that signal is required by the ABS ECU, so fix the speedo and you will probably fix the ABS fault. As for the EAS fault, you need to know what the fault is, download the free software from www.rswsolutions.com and get the cable and a serial to USB adaptor if you need it and read the faults yourself.
 
thanks Datatek, I will try the download, assume it runs on a standard laptop ok?

Definately runs on XP, not sure about Vista or Windows 7 as they are very fussy about what will and will not run.
Not sure but I think the speed sensor might be on the top of the transfer box.
 
The EAS and ABS need speed readings to work properly. Sort your speedo and that will sort your fault messages.
 
I think its the other way around,(From distant memory,dont do much with P38's now.)the abs ecu gives an average of all the wheel speed sensors to the BECM as a speed signal.The BECM then gives this signal out to all the ecu's that need it.
So it looks like the abs ecu is the place to start looking,not the ecu itself,but all the connections to it.

You are usually right, but I'm pretty sure from when I studied the wiring diagrams that there is a separate speed input. I'll check RAVE as soon as I get a mo.
 
I dont have RAVE at home but I found an old SID's that had the right info,the abs ecu gives a speed signal to the BECM on a yellow/green wire into BECM connector C114/11.It is a 0 - batt voltage square wave that gives 8000 pulses per mile.
The BECM filters this signal and outputs it on C112/13,a yellow wire.Its still 8000 pulses per mile,but an average of 5-6v.
Checking what is going on with both of these wires would be a good start,a multimeter would give a good enough answer.
 
The EAS and ABS need a speed signal from the road speed sensor to operate. The inhibit functions of both systems depend on road speed sensor readings. Pulses from the ABS sensors are for ABS use i don't think they are linked to EAS use. Some functions of ABS and EAS are controlled by road speed. It makes utter sense to me that if the speedo is not working there is a fault with the speed sensor on the transfer case or the connections to it. This is causing the EAS and ABS to give warnings of insufficient data.

No,the speed sensor on the transfer case is only for the transfer ecu to use to decide if range changes are allowable.If it will shift ranges you can assume its working OK.
