I'm restoring my 1968 Series 2A. But there is a problem, it's 80 miles away deep in the Northumbrian countryside! Not a big problem, except that I need a new battery for it, and as it lives in an area which can get very cold during the winter which will place demands on the battery for starting,I want a batterey on the basis that Bigger is Better. The question is - will the Series 2 battery tray take a battery of length 305mm? I quite forgot to measure the size of the battery tray when I was last with the car. Once I can get the old Landy started, out the garage, thorough clean, then some pics.
Thanks!

Is this petrol or diesel?

And is the battery under the bonnet, or under the seat?

A foot long dunt seem overly big.

I picked up one of these second hand 8 years ago out of an Audi A6. Or was it an A8. Can’t remember now.

it’s still good but I recently picked up a bargain new one off eBay for sixty quid.

They are 315mm long and still rattle around in the tray.

Thanks very much for your replies. That is optiimistic. The Landy is petrol, and the battery is located under the bonnet, front right (ie offside).

The 305 mm battery should fit, because the battery tray is also sized to take the battery for diesels, which have a bigger battery.

2286cc Petrol are usually a pretty good starter anyway, diesels not so much.

Yup, the battery fits (very promptly delivered from The Battery Group), and it starts, first time for years! Hmm, not on the key, but on the starter handle. What a useful feature this is. Earth strap corroded a bit at contacts, inhibiting starting. New one on the way. Was a bit worried in case the starter motor had gone awol, but it does turn the engine briskly with the plugs out. Couple of weeks before I can get to it again...
