A question Re the dredded EGR.

Be gentle with me chaps, been away from the forum a while, but as we have bought another Disco thought I would visit again.

I do intend to remove the EGR and have the old girl tuned a little.

Now here is my simple question, the EGR replacement kits vary from a cheap £7 to a mind numbing £65, but they both look the same, well to me they do any way. Is the £65 one worth the money, or does the £7 kit do the same job.

all thats needed is a steel blank fitted in between egr valve and manifold 1mm is plenty

Hi Phil, first of all you can either blank, or remove completely the EGR valve assembly.

Now, when you say how much tar-like black gunk is in and around the inlet manifold you will know why I always recommend complete removal of the EGR valve, especially on TD5.

When you do this job by either method, ensure that you examine and clean the inlet manifold and the MAP sensor - your engine will thank you for it.

I normally use Brake & Clutch aerosol spray on the MAP as it is relatively delicate. Don't stuff any sharp objects in there, just the the aerosol do the work.

Brilliant cheers guys, just did mine after it's done 240k with the egr in place so as you can imagine it was FULL of soot! I just cut out a blanking plate from some 1mm plate I had and just slid it inbetween on the inlet side. Is there any benefits to blanking off the exhaust side and removing the egr completely?

It depends what engine you are running?
