A plug removed when bought freelander

Hi people.
just bought a freelander 1999 1.8
noticed that this plug was removed and fan was always on , when plugged back in the fan went off , so i thought there must of been a reason to why it was removed in the first place. when i did plug it back in fan went off but never really went back on , maybe for 2 secs then cut off again , seems faulty plug or something along that line. hope you guys can give some advice on what i need to buy to sort this prob as not sure what to do and not sure what this plug is even called .

Guessing its the temperture sensor for the fans cutting in when the engine gets hot.
A fairly easy fix i would imagine.

thanks.. looked into this more was the temp sensor which is now replaced and work fine now.. fingers crossed

Which temp sensor ? The one that was unplugged when you got it ?
I have the same problem with mine, I've been told so many conflicting stories.
