Greetings,

Would a defender 110 which is lifted 2" need a modified a-frame ball joint to compensate for angle brought on by the lift or would a standard joint work fine?
I replaced my a frame joint 1 year ago (Delphi) but i am still experiencing a judder upon take up of drive. (Oh, all bushes have been recently replaced, so rule that out).
Should i invest in an adjustable ball joint?

Are you sure its the a frame joint thats causing the clunk / judder could be a number of other things Props binding, worn ujs, Diffs, clutch, spline wear.

I have a 2 inch lift a replaced my a ball joint with a Delphi about 6 years ago no issues since with it.

Props are not binding, I can confirm ujs to the front are good and one on the rear prop (transfer box side) is new. I know they should be replaced in pairs but I was short for time plus the other uj had shown no signs of wear at the time.
Continuing....front diff replaced with one in excellent condition earlier this year and rear diff gives no evidence of play, wear or issues. By splines I assume you mean axle flanges and halfshafts. Flanges recently replaced and half shaft splines are good. All parts replaced are OEM.
What I did consider was the clutch. What in the clutch could give symptoms like what I described?

Possibly the clutch plate sticking on its splines, or a worn or contaminated plate, or a wearing release mechanism. Check clutch hydraulics for adjustment and fluid condition first, and change fluid if needed. If no improvement, you may have to open it and see.

i was referring to the common spline wear on the gearbox output shaft before the Cross drilled input gears were fitted in the lt230 transfer box's

My Defender is a 2004 model so I doubt that will be the case here.

Sounds like you should whip your pto cover off and look inside.
Took the cover off couple months ago and found nothing unsual in addition the oil was clean with no bits of metal. No excess slack on the transfer box when examined either.
IMHO this does not feel of behave like it is drivetrain related. I would tend to lean towards the suggestions of the clutch.
I rebuilt the slave cylinder and replaced the master approximately 18months ago. Fluid has been bled twice since then. My initial thought was the A frame but come to think of it that would manifest itself as a clunk or clicking noise rather than a judder correct?
