picking up a disco tomorrow and the cross member mounts for the a frame have rotted out and the axel now rotates. Anyone replaced them before? Any tips? Thanks in advance

Dont think you can buy a repair piece for that so its a case of making one or getting one from a scrap chassis

Could see it being a pig of a job but not done it myself

I never finished welding my disco as it was so bad but that cross member was ok so id have a good look at the known points in the body and chassis before parting with any cash

Thanks for the reply, I'm a welder fabricator so not overly worried as if it's a wreck. I need to get it home and it's an 80 mile drive so I was wondering if it's weld able on the driveway to drive it back but by the sounds of things it's going to be easier to trailer it. I'm only paying 350 for it and it's got plenty of bits on it to cover my money if I decide its to much work to put back on the road. I was thinking of turning it into a pick up

Cant realy go wrong at £350 but if the rots so bad the axles moving then it will be best on a trailer till you had a proper look under there

Up until about 6 weeks ago I was a slit disc away from making a double cab pickup, with a decent size bed. I'm not keen on the ones where they just chop the back out, reminds me too much of a Vauxhall Frontera

I've seen the ends of the cross-member above the chassis rails rusted & holed but not the tube or the brackets although that's not to say they don't dissolve o_O

excuse me while I go outside & look at my '92 & '94

Rich.

I've not seen it yet but the guy said the mounts have sheered off so should be a bit of fun and all the rear body mounts are shot so sounds like it's going to take a few hours to sort but hopefully worth all the ballache

Hey Lyndon, another disco eh, we like rust! Mine died recently and now lives on as bits on a 90 in Caerphilly. Neither my discos had chassis issues just body so this one sounds quite far gone. Ive seen an article online where someone welded up the a frame mounts but if I were you I would cut some good ones off a dead disco and just weld them on. I would remove boot floor if it needs doing too as access much better. Reckon you may struggle unless you remove boot floor actually. Good luck man
Ps realised Lee J lives across the road from me these days! Small world eg
Cheers

How's it going man, haven't had a Landy since that one, I've got sheep now but this one was to good an opportunity as its so cheap. Think it's going to be a pick up so boot floor is coming out anyway but if the body mounts and a frame are anything to go by there probably won't be much of a floor there anyway!

Haha they do like to rust. Im banned from owning one for next 2 yrs, missus had enough of oil on drive and me lying on drive all evening under them. Hope this one is salvageable and can lug a few ewes for you!

Banned from owning 1?????

I've got 2!

Ok, so ones on the road but that's irrelevant :p

Lyndon, I'm in tycroes / capel-hendre near Ammanford but from Swansea originally & work in port talbot (steelworks) so commute daily past you (ish)
